Apparently, receiving taxpayer-funded welfare payments is now considered earning an income.
Meanwhile, there are single mothers dragging themselves out of bed every morning, dropping their kids at childcare and working their arses off, only to take home less than someone sitting at home collecting Centrelink.
And we wonder why people are losing faith in the system.

In the almost 7yrs since just prior to Covid, real wages in NZ have now increased by 0.2% in total. People might label the issue "cost of living" but it is likely to be a reflection of material living stds just not improving.
