I have a perfect idea! Make a window that plays ads every few minutes, no seconds! And it plays them at max volume with no way to change it! Then force people to pay $100 a month to change the volume and $500 a month for no ads! Everyone is on board... right? Right?!

Honestly I really want to get my Gen1 Home Mini to be my own local smart speaker. It doesn't seem possible to use DNS trickery so maybe replacing the main PCB with something else? The question is though, can I be bothered? If I do I'd probably open source it tbh

I want to replace it with a local Home Assistant voice thing, but first I need to train an ethical language model for it (it is possible but existing ones are not). Then either buy entirely new hardware, or replacement ESP32 PCBs, since nobody rooted the Home Mini yet...

Someone made a Linux script that emails Sam Altman every day to report how much unused RAM is sitting in your PC. Called Ram-Altman, it monitors your free memory and sends him a daily email if more than 10% is unused. It even includes different email messages and a test mode.

🚨 BREAKING: A flaw in APT, the tool that installs software on Debian Linux, lets an attacker on the network tamper with a package after it passes verification and run code as root. The bug, CVE-2026-109518, sits in resumed HTTP downloads. APT can merge two different downloads when a redirect gives them the same address, and a man-in-the-middle can then alter the file after its check. Debian fixed it in apt 3.0.4, shipped to Debian 13 security updates on 4 November. Users should upgrade now. Per Debian's changelog, the fix is four words long. "Open target files exclusively."

Even if everyone tells me to remove AI disclosures in SplameiPlay, I won't. Consumers deserve to know how such an impactful tool has been used.

Steam should remove AI disclosures. Instead of treating AI as something consumers need to be warned about, treat human only development as the thing that needs special disclosure. AI assisted development should become the default expectation.

I've been having fun with the app that allows you to burn images to DVDs and I must say it's really a sign to behold! And the fact you can actually store data on it is crazy!
