1/x October is #ADHDAwarenessMonth. Kirby Hansen-McNulty, CEO and founder of @CalibrateADHD, joins me Thursday for Ep. 59 of #ShiningLightOnShadows, “Understanding and Living With ADHD; AI as a Tool for Managing ADHD.” Kirby and I will talk about self-awareness, self-support, burnout and why so many people wait until things reach a crisis before seeking help. I’ll also share how I’ve been using #ChatGPT as one tool to help manage my work with #ADHD. Links / Details: neilparekh.org/post/ep-59-un… 📅 Thursday, Oct. 22 🕖 7pm ET / 6pm CT / 4pm PT My co-host @Dawner100 will be attending “Survivor Like Me: 100 Survivor Takeover,” that night. That’s why she won’t be joining the show. Thank you to @Digimentors for pro bono production support.

2/x Kirby Hansen-McNulty from @CalibrateADHD and I each wrote blog posts for this episode. Kirby: “The ADHD ‘Would Be Nice’ List: Why Self-Care Should Come First” She writes about the #ADHD “would be nice” list, the things we know could help us but continually push behind whatever feels more urgent. That can include getting evaluated, understanding a diagnosis, finding support or simply taking time to understand how ADHD shows up in our lives and building supports that work with our brains rather than against them. 🔗 neilparekh.org/post/kirby-ha… My Blog Post: “AI as a Tool for Managing ADHD.” I write about what I’ve learned since being diagnosed, and how #ChatGPT has become one tool I use to put those lessons into practice. I use it for planning, prioritization, time management and external memory. It has also helped me make work feel more finite and, sometimes, recognize when I’ve done enough. I also write about its limitations. ChatGPT can make mistakes, misunderstand context and become another task in itself. The point is not that ChatGPT is managing my ADHD for me. I’m adapting a tool to support the ways I’m learning to manage ADHD myself. 🔗 neilparekh.org/post/ai-as-a-… Kirby will be my guest on Ep. 59 of #ShiningLightOnShadows, “Understanding and Living With ADHD; AI as a Tool for Managing ADHD.” Links / Details: neilparekh.org/post/ep-59-un… 📅 Thursday, Oct. 22 🕖 7pm ET / 6pm CT / 4pm PT #ADHDAwarenessMonth #MentalHealth

>> @BoutrousTed has set a deadline — Thursday at 5 p.m. ET — for the Trump admin to "confirm in writing" that the White House has put a stop to the practice. "If these actions persist, CNN will have no choice but to return to the court to defend its rights..."
New: With the White House excluding CNN from Trump's trips on Air Force One, disrupting a decades-old tradition of pooled TV coverage, an attorney for the network is foreshadowing further legal action. Here's the latest: cnn.com/2026/10/20/media/cnn…

Last night, Alberta voted to remain a part of Canada. A major rebuke of Musk, whose active intervention and poisoning of the discourse in the UK, Germany and elsewhere has been so evil. Also of Trump’s MAGA operatives who’ve been helping the separatists behind the scenes. Gooooo, 🇨🇦!
They would be better off. Alberta and Saskatchewan should separate too.

I do wonder why JD Vance, whose own wife is Indian American and whose children share that heritage, couldn’t bring himself to say the same thing. Surely it shouldn’t take an extraordinary act of political courage to condemn something as fundamentally indefensible as racial bigotry.
Journalist: People are worried about rising anti-Indian hate in the United States right now Secretary Rubio: There are individuals within our country, sadly, who are stupid, who are dumb or hateful. I don’t believe anti-India hate in the US is widespread

Publishers Weekly reviewed my upcoming book, How to Save the Media, and called it "a glimmer of hope". Full review: 'McKenzie (Insane Mode), cofounder of Substack, makes a convincing case for a media system based on direct relationships between creators and audiences. As social networks upend traditional news outlets, he urges the industry to adopt a business model like Substack’s subscription-based system. “The marriage of infrastructure that supports direct relationships with a set of incentives that align the platform, publisher, and audience is one of the keys to a new era in media,” he argues. This direct-to-consumer approach, he explains, enables writers to sidestep traditional power brokers, like TV networks, advertisers, and billionaires. Subscription journalism, the past province of eccentric independents, is now making millionaires of writers, he claims, pointing to Heather Cox Richardson, a Boston College history professor who formerly posted for free on Facebook and now writes about politics for thousands of paying subscribers on Substack. Elsewhere, McKenzie relates a riveting recent history of media, from Twitter’s twice-attempted purchase of Substack to Bari Weiss’s founding of The Free Press on Substack and subsequent hiring as the head of CBS News. Pushing back against criticism that Substack just tells readers what they want to hear, McKenzie envisions the direct-subscription model will enable a more thoughtful future. It’s a glimmer of hope in a bleak media landscape.'
