getting generic_decline in Stripe? it's probably not your checkout šŸ›‘ your country of incorporation is a conversion lever šŸŒ > 4 Stripe decline codes all mean "unknown reason" > the bank explains it to the cardholder, never to you > card issued abroad = more declines, silently So: same product, same price, different passport. Selling in US as a US company gives you 10pp better Acceptance rate. (especially important for off-session upsells / renewals)

indie hackers think web2app is just a trick to avoid Apple’s 30% fee meanwhile, this app launched on Appfunnel is acquiring 100k+ new visitors/month while every cohort starts at ~0.6x ROAS: → Month 0: 0.6x → Month 2: 1.2x → Month 5: 3x the catch: you need enough cash to fund acquisition until the cohorts pay back. the upside: higher AOV and better retention can make web2app customers worth far more than those acquired through IAP, in the long run. already at 3x ROAS by month 5. Let’s see what the cohort looks like at month 12.

makes sense since 33% of top 30 entertainment apps are short form AI dramas
TikTok just came out with a new short form video app. 100% ai generated vids. 100% drama type cringe slop. Currently you must be a studio to post on there but once it gets opened to everyone to post it’s gonna be a huge opportunity

apparently lots of americans think deleting an app cancels their trial and subscription "deleted the icon off my phone" 😐

And now one of the biggest web2app companies has entered the category BetterMe just launched a wardrobe app with a 66 step onboarding a $49.99 first month offer, followed by $99/month @nestymee proved the demand with Aesty. The big guys noticed
Someone's about to launch an Aesty clone

And with AI fruit characters as the ad format, obviously.

so what are people switching too, now that OneSignals is removing unlimited Push Notifications from their free plan. Can’t pay per monthly active user since we mostly use it for winback on users leaving our onboardings, not ā€œactiveā€ users? Any pay per notification services? Expo is fine, but too much you need to manage yourself

*the change will force us up to a plan of paying $2k/month

One app can have: 20 ad angles 20 matching funnels 5 different offers 1 product That is the part of web2app most founders miss The funnel is not just a checkout. It lets you sell the same app differently to every audience BetterMe is the extreme example. Estimates put it near $250M in annual revenue, while only around $36M comes through IAP. Its public Meta account shows 48,000 ads. a wall pilates ad leads to a wall pilates funnel. chair yoga gets its own. walking plans get another. The app stays the same, but the story, landing page, price, and trial can all change

can’t believe increasing MRR from a canoe is a real option now Claude Code Remote is ridiculous this is what remote work was supposed to mean

taking a break from building to see if MRR survives without me staring at it so far so good

Clever or misleading? This web2app funnel recreates the App Store page including ratings, preview videos and swapping ā€œGetā€ to ā€œStart Trial" then opening Apple Pay at $0.00, while the $9.99/week renewal appears in small text

BetterMe makes nearly $250M a year. Only $36M comes through in-app purchases. the rest comes through 100+ web funnels. They build different funnels for every type of exercise they advertise like Pilates, Tai Chi, Chair Yoga and 100s others. their public Meta account has tested 48,000+ creatives. they mostly just use AI fitness influencers they are saving millions a year in fees and increasing their LTV by just running web2app

Consumer apps are the new dropshipping (and you are late) the app equivalent of selling a $5 temu product for $200 is putting an AI API behind a nice onboarding and charging $9.99/week and running meta ads. same playbook
App founders: ā€œi won’t use fake limited discounts because it’s not ethicalā€ Dropshippers: - Selling a $5 temu product for $200 - $4.99 shipping protection (it doesn’t protect anything) - $4.99 30-day guarantee (there isn’t even a 1-day guarantee)

Organic is great when you know how to make videos go viral consistently most people don’t for everyone else, ads are a much more predictable way to grow
And +809 new customers/day for one of my apps and many trial + sub. I truly believe there’s no marketing strategy cheaper than pure organic marketing. 😌

Every app founder wants to be the 1% that posts a organic TikToks, goes viral, and keeps a 70% margin The other 99 never make your feed Paid ads look expensive because the Zuck fee is visible. Organic looks free because nobody includes the 1000 videos that flopped I’d rather pay Zuck than bet the App on becoming an outlier

unpopular opinion: going viral with 18–24 year olds is almost worthless for a paid consumer app. huge install numbers. terrible LTV. an algorithm trained on people who never spend. the boring money is women 35+.
