I haven't been on here in a long time. I'm looking around, and the number of dramatic A.I. story posts is insane.
Quick note for white peeps in relationships with Asian peeps.
"Tiny head" is a compliment.
Signed,
"17 years of people patting my head, smiling, and saying "so small"."
A lot of supportive teaching comments need to be said face to face--especially at the end of the semester.
Writing out "I will hunt you down if you don't turn this in" can get misinterpreted.
It needs the live, in person tone.
My students were talking about the "cool kid" snacks that people would bring in their lunchboxes in school, and now I very much need to show up on the last day with enough babybel cheeses and easy-peal mandarin oranges for everybody.
Another semester of research writing classes.
Another paper without... any research in it.
I don't...
I just...
I recently tried a break from social media and failed.
I think that was not the heart of the issue.
As someone with the privilege of a laptop, I'm going to try giving up "recreational phone use" instead. This brick is now only Google searches, calls/text, a camera, and a GPS.

Applying for full time jobs and
1.) Hoping I get it.
2.) Pre-judging anyone who hires me because we both know there's always already a good adjunct who works there who deserves to be promoted to full time.
Academia hard.

You go ahead and call it
*Pal-entine's Day*
and invite your friends over.
And I hope you never outgrow cute names for the stuff you do.
"Let's help our students!"
"Yes!"
"Volunteers for job interview practice?"
"Here!"
"Volunteers for the barber class practice?"
"Here!"
"Volunteers for the phlebotomy class practice?"
"...."
"Guys?"
"...."
How students can imagine I won't know an analysis is A.I...
2 pages of rambling about what a provided picture "may" "possibly" look like. "Probably" a famous piece of art. "Could be" symbolic. "Most likely" has a deeper meaning.
100% written by a furby.
People are using A.I. to write scintillating little anecdotes for their social media posts, and I am not a fan, but the idea that this works for engagement...
People are *reading*, y'all.
Dramatic gossip might just stem our literacy crisis.
Applied for a job, so I might actually have to start answering the phone when it rings.
Please keep me in your thoughts during this trying time.
I think I'm a pretty modern teacher, but then I'm left staring at an email where I was checking on a struggling student in my class, worried about grades and attendance, and they sent me back--a thumbs up emoji.
So... I don't have... anything to worry about...?
