Today at #CSTConf26 I announced that CST is building the Centre for Multi-School Effectiveness. 🧵 Many schools now work together in groups – from trusts in England to school networks worldwide. The Centre will build credible, practical evidence on effective practices.

The Centre is for everyone – built with the sector, for every multi-school organisation and every child they serve. Coming spring 2027.

The Centre is being supported by a group of 21 Programme Partners. We are grateful for their help and look forward to working with them and the whole sector to build evidence for the benefit of all.

Australia's reading and maths results in the 2025 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) study, published earlier this month, are the worst on record. This isn’t a funding problem; it’s a system design problem. In the latest edition of The McKinnon Exchange, Jordana Hunter and I argue that Australia needs to move beyond playing whack-a-mole — flurries of new initiatives and isolated interventions — and start building coherent school systems that improve outcomes at scale. mckinnon.co/policy-innovatio…

A really important piece of research that opens up discussions on the nature of school improvement: not just if trusts aid this work, but how and the conditions required for this to be most effective. Another excellent publication from the @CSTvoice

It’s been pleasing to see the reception this research has received. I think many people have rightly understood that at its heart this is a good news story about the work done by teachers, leaders and support staff to improve education for children. Good news is always welcome.

We've just published new research which finds a positive effect of trust membership on pupil attainment. In this substack I explore what this might mean for school improvement work in trusts. steverollett.substack.com/p/…

14/14 The evidence gives us reason for confidence, and work to do. Which practices help effective groups improve schools? How can more children benefit? Excellent work happens across education. This is a shared task for schools and trusts.
