The Globe deploying its architecture writer to lie about Toronto crime stats on the even of the mayoral election is interesting.

Everything in Toronto is worse than when she took office. Traffic, crime, taxes. All moving in the wrong direction. Enough
This election is a simple choice: Do we keep moving forward together to make life more affordable? Or do we go backwards to cuts? I don't think that's what Toronto wants. I have made my choice. I will keep standing up for families across our city. And I will keep bringing costs down. This race is close. Your vote will decide it. I’m number 9 on the ballot. Let's keep moving forward, together.

Watching @CP24 Mayor's debate. IMO Chow looks uncertain &98 uncomfortable. One observation I'd make overall: Mayor Chow attracted broad support by governing as a pragmatic centrist. As the campaign has tightened these past few days she's lurched left to animate her base.

Obviously true. I’ve never seen someone smoke crack before I started taking the Queen street car to work, and now I see it once a week. Taking transit shouldn’t require staring at the ground while addicts scream at the walls. Toronto needs change. Vote for Brad.
If we want to increase transit ridership, we need to make it safe, reliable and clean. Mayor Chow hasn't. I will. Vote for it on October 26th.

How exactly is Turkey “promoting peace”
Today, @MarkJCarney is in Türkiye, the first Canadian Prime Minister to visit that country, to strengthen our exports in defence, clean energy, critical minerals & people to people ties. This is part of the PM's goal to diversify trade away from dependence on the USA which has weaponized trade. While we don’t see eye to eye with Türkiye on some human rights issues, it is a strong NATO & OSCE partner. As a nation committed to promoting peace, we should not only talk with like-minded nations lest we miss the opportunity to dialogue, negotiate and influence change. As Sir Winston Churchill said, following WW2: "it's better to jaw-jaw than war-war."

This is a perfect example of the Gramscian left’s long march through the institutions. Dozens of people in the Irish government, and taxpayer funded quangos, would have been involved in conceiving of, creating, approving and funding this vile anti-family ad campaign. Apparently not one of them paused to ask, “what exactly are we doing here? Why are we drawing parallels between sexual harassment and loving grandparents hugging their grandkids? Won’t a lot of normal people recoil from this?” No one asked or objected because undoubtedly everyone involved studied various forms of leftist critical theory at college, and live in a weird sub culture where this stuff *is* normalcy. In places like Ireland and Canada, the creative and bureaucratic classes have become so heavily dominated by leftist group think they are blind to even their most bizarre ideological prejudices. The small number of would be dissidents will rarely dare the loss of status, employment, or social prestige to question it.

“Arnold and Joanne De Jong were in their seventies when three men they had once hired to clean their gutters came back to their Abbotsford home in the middle of the night in May 2022 and murdered them. Arnold was suffocated, his head wrapped in duct tape. Joanne was beaten, and her throat was cut. The killers left with the couple’s cheques, credit cards, and a power washer. The trial judge found they planned to murder the De Jongs because they knew they would be recognized in the course of their robbery. On Monday, the De Jongs’ daughters came to court expecting to watch those men receive justice in sentencing. Instead, they heard the judge declare that the law denying multiple murderers any chance at early parole violates the Charter’s ban on cruel and unusual punishment. The cruelty, apparently, lies in making men who suffocated an old man with duct tape and bludgeoned his wife wait 25 years before asking to go free. Sentencing has been pushed to 2027. Canadians settled this question a long time ago, and we settled it twice. A Liberal government in 1997 and a Conservative government in 2011, elected by different voters with different priorities, each concluded that people who kill more than once should be offered no early exit. That is what a free people does with its moral convictions: it argues about them, elects representatives who share them, and writes them into law. One judge has now informed Canadians that the answer they reached together, through two elected Parliaments, isn’t allowed.” - - - I don’t think there is any issue I’ve become more conservative on more than the sickness in our judicial system, even as I’ve become more left than I used to on economics/role of government. It feels like several times a week there is another story that represents a deep miscarriage of justice, ill consideration for victims, or neglects society’s need for and equally applied rule of law or real punishment as a deterrence to crime. I fear there is not enough recourse to judges who reinterpret the constitution to ideological ends better left to the actual legislature. This story honestly makes me sick and it saddens me that there are no practical accountability options for the judiciary in a case like this. @stevestaley thehub.ca/2026/10/21/how-can…

.@oliviachow started the campaign occupying the centre but has been pushed into NDP weirdo zone. Next up they’ll be saying Brad will privatize sidewalks. Nutty stuff.
Brad Bradford wants to hand over our drinking water to Doug Ford — so it can be privatized. This isn’t for you, it’s for Brad’s investor friends. This will drive up your water bill and make our drinking water less safe. I will never privatize our water.

Everything in this city is worse than it was before she took office, so rather than running on her abysmal record, Chow is running on dishonest, nonsensical fearmongering. Politics at its worst.

TMU hired a retired judge to investigate antisemitism on campus. The judge found the school has a double standard for Jews, and failed to enforce its own code of conduct. So the same administration that commissioned the investigation hid its conclusion. nationalpost.com/opinion/joh…

These high school students sure seem to have aggressive response to their class sizes.
A French woman says that the rioters and looters broke into her building and threatened her with rape while she was holding her child in her arms. “That’s collateral damage” responds the feminist activist Bettina Zourli who holds a Master’s in gender studies and focuses her work on gender norms, motherhood, reproductive rights, and voluntary childlessness (“childfree”) She describes herself as “feminist, childfree and Antifa” Zourli also says that all the stores getting looted also constitute a case of collateral damage and that the revolution, which she supports, must be violent. She has lectured in gender studies, including at the University of Lille and Université Rennes.
