SIR PATRICK STEWART (1940-2026)
Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love.
We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we weren’t in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in 'Star Trek'. “But Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to risk—getting lost in Hollywood for years and years?”. Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes ('X-Men' of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in London’s West End and on Broadway.
America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire.
His farewell performance in 'Avengers: Doomsday' is yet to be seen.

Has anyone experienced discriminatory gate personnel @Ryanair in Dublin ? I with my family just did and it was shocking. The tone of address and the mishandling of procedure and threatening behavior. Unacceptable for any passenger. First bad experience in Dublin

Is #CycloneArnab pounding #Bhubaneswar now?
Squall with blustery winds sweeping across the city now for the past 10 mins or so.
Mother Nature, be kind. 🙏🏼

Travelled 778 kms of #OdishaByRoad this weekend. One thing missing is adequate toilets :(
A household in front of the Maa Kandhuni temple @ Taptapani, had 4 men's & 4 women's toilets in their courtyard, well maintained & charged 10 rupees per usage.
@odisha_tourism Imagine scaling this model across tourist places. Empower locals, improve sanitation & create livelihoods. Participating property gets standard roadside signs, a unique ID and published pricing.
Journo asks Mantri a question…..Mantri beats around the bush…..Journo finally gives Mantri ji an off ramp by insinuating the Japanese Mantri had a personal agenda who thought ‘Jaate Jaate de ke jaata hoon’.

This particular interaction brings to fore the deep and irreversible rot that has set-in within our system.
The sheer audacity of the wrong side car driver to step out of his car and confront the 2-wheeler rider even after committing such a flagrant violation of the law in the presence of the traffic cop no less is incredible and quite frankly beyond revolting.
The lassiez-faire attitude of the traffic cop makes you lose faith in the concept of a rules-based society and prompts you to question and reevaluate everything you have learnt since childhood.
But what makes one really despondent is the fact that this utter and complete disregard for the laws of the land by the perpetrator and law enforcement alike has turned into a pandemic and one that has no prophylactic (vaccine) and definitely no cure.

Somehow, these poor creatures haven't got a memo to stay off the roads because an Urban Mobility event is happening in Bhubaneswar. I am sorry for these pictures @BDA_BBSR
Always assume that every driver is on their phone and distracted.
Never walk with your back to the flow of oncoming traffic.
With all that said, this epidemic will not abate until and unless there is ironclad enforcement and swift and crippling penal action is meted out.

Ankita Sharma, an IPS officer currently posted as Superintendent of Police (SP) of Rajnandgaon in Chhattisgarh, was seen firing an AK-47 during the Vijayadashami celebrations. Such an act is reckless and reflects a complete disregard for the safety of people in the vicinity.

3 Dussehra has passed since BJP gained power in Odisha. Not for a single time they properly repaired the roads in Bhubaneswar. Everywhere the road is damaged, a part of the road is topped up while the other part is left unattended. Patches look horrible.

Bhubaneswar doesn't need a metro, it will be just a showpiece if it goes for it. We need better bus service

Also, last I checked, Khimji was a primarily Odisha-based brand.
What's up with this Bengali saree obsession and Hindi tagline?

Will #Bhubaneswar have its own Metro?
A question on everybody’s lips. Yet, nobody seems to bother about its feasibility.
This report about the Jaipur Metro might help answer a few crucial questions.
