Some belated personal news: I started as Editor at @constructdive last week! I'm really excited about joining such a stellar team and gaining more insight into infrastructure, planning and labor issues
Learned so much about housing as climate change response reporting this for @NextCityOrg! OR and CA are adapting pandemic hotel housing experiments to shelter residents who have lost homes to wildfire, are endangered by fire/extreme heat, etc

Let’s talk about heat waves.
As a heat wave broils the Pacific Northwest, scientists are saying it’s safe to assume that carbon emissions are making heat waves more severe and more likely. In other words, climate change is making extreme heat worse. grist.org/science/is-climate…
This was a really good read: "These records remain easily accessible to the public and tenant screening companies, even when the filing does not lead to an eviction or is resolved in a tenants’ favor."

If you haven’t picked up the latest issue of @streetsensedc, correct that immediately. @howisthatlegal is on the cover, and profiles DC’s first drug treatment program for women.

Get this: The D.C. govt is required by law to deliver HARD COPIES of legislation BY HAND to the U.S. Capitol for review. But because of the new fencing around the Capitol, D.C. officials can't get in. That means these laws are basically stuck in legal limbo.
I cannot wait to listen!

Of all the stories we tell out of D.C., Relisha Rudd's is one every Washingtonian should know.
In @wamu885's new podcast Through The Cracks, @jonquilynhill explores Relisha's life and investigates if her disappearance was preventable. New eps Thursdays. wamu.org/throughthecracks

As a D.C. resident, the story of Relisha Rudd is burned into my mind.
I remember when I got the AMBER alert for her in 2014. She was 8 years old and disappeared from a homeless shelter. The days that followed were a nightmare for the city that I won't forget.

Red Zones, Green Zones, transit closures, National Mall closing.
All of this information has been disparate and hard to visualize.
We attempted to compile a map of the known closures, though some info is incomplete, conflicting. Conditions are also continually changing.
We mapped all the inauguration-related road, transit, and other closures we could find. dcist.com/story/21/01/13/ina…

Airbnb just announced it's cancelling ALL reservations in the D.C. region during Inauguration week. "Guests whose reservations are canceled will be refunded in full. We also will reimburse hosts, at Airbnb’s expense."
Today we’re announcing a 7-step plan to help build trust and assist with protecting our community of hosts and guests in the greater Washington, D.C. area as we approach the Presidential Inauguration.

Today is sadly my last at WAMU. It’s been a delight to work alongside such a talented and compassionate group of journalists during this difficult year, and I’ve never been more grateful to be producing local news.
Frankly, I’m really going to miss everyone at WAMU and DCist, especially my skilled teammates @awmccall, @c_zapato, and @tyronefoto.
