saw someone on here say that mido is almost a father figure to namgoong & he's a mother figure to her and it makes so much sense, they both grew up together becoming the parent they themselves needed.

daisyyyy@imawater_sign22h

Namgung’s tendency to sacrifice himself for his loved ones is so sad. For eg. he donated his kidney for his mom who had made his life miserable, just bcuz she had given him stolen peaches representing that there was a time when she really cared for him + #ALoveOtherThanYours

mido protects him bcs of what happened with her dad, namgoong gives everything bcs he feels he owes whoever loves him given his history with his mom, so whatever they have looks less like 'love' & 'devotion' and more like two people paying off what they think they owe each other

ofc that's not to say they don't love each other or never loved each other bcs that would undermine the years of care & sacrifice they gave eo but the guilt & the debt are what keep them tied together, which is why it's so hard for both of them to just walk away and call it quits

To celebrate Tsai Ming-liang's birthday, we highly recommend 'Rebels of the Neon God' (1992), a magnetic film that shows a decadent, dull and under-construction Taipei where only shopping malls, street food stalls and arcades give a bit of color to a sad and gloomy city.
