This morning when I woke up, I thought it was 7:30am, so when I took off my eye mask, I was surprised to find it was only 4:30am. But I felt awake. Not only that, I felt ENERGIZED. I have not felt anything upon waking other than utter exhaustion for at least a decade, but probably more like 16 years.
Last week, I did Function Health Labs, which are super comprehensive. I started getting results back Saturday, fed them to a private AI, and it was freaking out about how I have no energy.
YOU GUYS -- I'm a carnivore and I am ANEMIC. I have eaten red meat 🥩🥩🥩 for 99.99% of my meals for the last two and a half years, and I'm ANEMIC -- wth ferritin stores above 240! (This is so high, it was marked as dangerously high on Function Health.)
It diagnosed me with anemia of chronic inflammation, which I hadn't heard of before, but it explained to me a question I had meant to ask a doctor -- why one iron marker was low when another was high and I was eating so much red meat -- but that doctor missed it because she preferred to spend our appointment time lecturing me about how I needed to eat greens even though I told her that eating this way was making me feel BETTER 🙄. (Pro tip if you're a doctor: if a patient who has been incredibly sick for over a decade tells you something they are doing is making them feel better, BE A HUMAN AND BE EXCITED FOR THEM and don't be a fucking idiot and tell them to go back to eating the way that made them feel worse.)
I spent all weekend talking with the AI about my lab results, and it told me which supplements to take, including a few I already had on hand that it said would help. The main one it said I needed I had to order, and it will arrive next week, so I haven't even been able to take the most important one yet. DESPITE THAT, just taking the one I had lying around for the last seven days allowed me to FEEL ENERGY UPON WAKING!!!!
Is this what it feels like to be a normal human?!?!?!
Feeling energy upon waking made me want to cry. I feel so gypped!!!! I can't believe I'm only 7 days into what I need to do to get over this, and I am not exhausted and fighting to get through the day 😭 If I weren't so fucking excited, I think I'd be crying, but seriously, WTF.
Western medical doctors and the healthcare system are so fucked. Yay for comprehensive labs and AI!!!

Incredible to see @function shown as one of seven examples of Muse connectors.
Function is already ubiquitous, yet they have barely scratched the surface of what they will achieve in the years ahead.
Way to go @swerdlin and team!
Opening access for developers to build Muse connectors. You bring the API -- Muse brings the agent, the browser, and the context of what the person actually wants. People reach your service just by asking for it, and their agent takes it from there.
New connectors are live today. Come build with us. muse.ai/platform
So proud of the work the @function team is doing with @altcap to help people not die from cardiovascular disease.
Thank you Brad for continuing to push on CAC scans 🙏 .
TOUR: Inside the $100 Heart CAC scan saving lives
Brad Gerstner (@altcap):
" Heart attacks are a dumb way to die. Because they are preventable."
"Half of the people who have heart attacks every year have cholesterol in the normal zone.. I'm not saying that all doctors are involved in a grand conspiracy by telling us to track our cholesterol. What I'm telling you is the evidence on the street that 800,000 people/year are dying of this, tells you that that's not enough."
My favorite channel on the @function Slack is our #morelife channel. Another week, another life saved.

For Tova, every birthday past 39 is a milestone.
That's the age her father died of cancer.
Every year since has felt like both a gift and a reminder: never take your health for granted.
That's why she gets an annual MRI.
Because the goal isn't simply to live longer.
It's having more time with the people she loves.
Now available to all Function members in 200+ locations.

Reposting this because I think it eloquently stated the same points I made today re: this new product vs MRI, and also because it includes the thoughts of Function’s @DanielSodickson, formerly of @NYUImaging and truly the expert’s expert on MRI.

Strong agree -- "@Midjourney's instinct is… sound: build a fast, cheap, radiation-free scanner. But the revolution isn't the snapshot; it's scanning longitudinally to detect change, fusing it with other modalities like MRI, and putting it in homes rather than spas. ...
Overall, kudos to @DavidSHolz and his team"

As someone who is very particular about product quality, I give @function an A+.
Their customer experience is outstanding.
1) Scheduling a blood draw takes about 30 seconds
2) Results come back fast
3) The depth of insight you get into your health is on another level

1/ Get this moment right and you get Renaissance Florence. Get it wrong and you get the New Soviet Man —and the twenty million graves that came with him.
AI is a Renaissance. Three of its four pillars are already here. The fourth is on us.🧵
One chart should change how many think about cancer.
This is U.S. survival data from patients diagnosed between 2011 and 2017.
Local = cancer is only in the organ where it started.
Regional = cancer has reached nearby lymph nodes or tissues.
Distant = cancer has spread to other organs.
Look at what happens to 5-year survival:
Breast cancer
99% (local)
86% (regional)
29% (distant)
Colon cancer
91%
72%
14%
Melanoma
99%
68%
30%
Prostate cancer
99%
99%
31%
Lung cancer
60%
33%
6%
Pancreatic cancer
42%
14%
3%
The numbers are not current. This data is now several years old.
Since then, treatment has improved significantly for melanoma, lung cancer, kidney cancer, and some blood cancers thanks to immunotherapy and targeted therapies.
Progress has been slower for pancreatic cancer, stomach cancer, and metastatic colorectal cancer.
The percentages have changed. The pattern has not.
For many cancers, the biggest difference is not the cancer itself. It’s whether it is found before or after it spreads.

It’s an honor to now build with @smart and the @joinsuppco team. Stay tuned.

We're thrilled to share that @function has officially acquired @joinsuppco.
More than 60% of Americans take dietary supplements, yet for decades, the category has lacked an independent standard for trust, efficacy, and safety.
The number one question we get at SuppCo is: "How do I know my supplements are actually working for me?"
Today, we're officially one step closer to closing that loop.
Function helps you monitor your health through a comprehensive baseline of 160+ lab tests and imaging. SuppCo provides the independent trust layer to help you verify the quality and science behind the supplements you put into your body.
Together with the Function team, we're going to build something that's never been built before: a clear line from your biology to your supplement stack, with direct insights into what’s working for you.
We're incredibly excited to join Function and contribute to their mission of helping everyone live 100 healthy years.

Okay sick. Robinhood just launched a Platinum Card and it's be looking like the single best credit card deal out there
The best perk: Function Health. It's 100+ lab tests covering organ function to cancer markers. The kind of panel insurance won't cover. Normally costs $499/year. Now included.
The card's annual fee is $695.

Then stack on:
- $250 in DoorDash credits + DashPass

Health should be as easy - and personalized - as music.
@ZSultan is joining @function as Chief Product & Technology Officer.
Ziad comes to Function from his role as SVP of Personalization at @Spotify .
At Spotify, Ziad led Product, Engineering, Design, Data, Tech Research, and Operations for an organization of 500+ people. His teams built and scaled one of the world's most advanced personalization engines, powering beloved experiences such as Wrapped, AI DJ, Home, Search, Daily Mix, Discover Weekly, Blend, and Radio for hundreds of millions of listeners. Prior to his six years at Spotify, Ziad helped lead Google News.
Ziad is 1 of 1. World-class in technology. World-class in personalization. And 100% mission aligned.
Function makes health simple. Spotify makes music simple. Personalization is the shared core: music that feels made for you, and health that finally understands you.
It’s incidental - but perfect timing - that Spotify Wrapped dropped yesterday. Wrapped compresses your year into something you instantly get. What’s the equivalent for your health? The ongoing digestion and understanding of who you are, how your body is changing, and what you can do about it.
Under Ziad’s leadership, entirely new experiences will make your health as intuitive, personalized, and delightful as your favorite playlist. Function is building a product so good it would feel morally criminal not to use, and as commonplace as Spotify or Google News. Stay tuned for what we create, just for you.
Welcome, Ziad. Long live humans.
PS — Listening Age? How about Biological Age? We see (and love) you, Spotify. And we raise you one Ziad.
