Some Government of Canada websites have been temporarily taken offline as a precaution to protect government systems and Canadians' information, following guidance from the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security.
This is in response to a vulnerability identified in PHP, software used by websites around the world. This is a global issue, and other governments and organizations are also taking protective measures.
If your organization uses PHP, apply the latest security updates as soon as possible and follow @cybercentre_ca for updates.
We take this situation extremely seriously. Thank you to the cyber security teams working to protect the services Canadians rely on. Affected websites will be restored once patches are applied.
Effective Immediately, all organizations using PHP for their systems are advised to be prepared for an update addressing two critical vulnerabilities. PHP is widely used for web applications. These vulnerabilities often provide a direct path to the server's file system or database. If an immediate update is not feasible, it is recommend that organizations take the system offline until it can be fully mitigated. NSA will follow up shortly with more specific guidance.

Canada's $2.3B pivot away from Starlink isn't just about internet-it's a massive warning shot to Elon Musk over Ukraine.
PM Mark Carney directly cited Musk's sudden service cuts and data restrictions to Ukraine as the exact reason Canada must achieve total strategic autonomy. No ally wants to rely on one unpredictable billionaire who can pull the military plug during a war.
Canada isn't just protecting itself. The $2.3B contract expands Ottawa-based Telesat Lightspeed into a military-grade satellite network meant for secure Arctic and NORAD defense.
Telesat confirmed they plan to deploy this secure system directly to Ukraine and other allied nations.
Canada is literally funding the un-pluggable backup system Ukraine has been looking for. 🇨🇦

This is so racist and sickening.
A man stands up at JD Vance’s rally and says “release the Epstein files”.
Vance then implies that he’s an illegal immigrant, because of his skin color.

👇 BEST EXPLANATION EVER ON HOW LLMS ARE BUILT
it's surprisingly simple when you break it down!
1️⃣ Gather and clean enormous amounts of data.
2️⃣ Convert text into tokens and vectors.
3️⃣ Train transformers to recognize patterns.
4️⃣ Predict the next token billions of times, improving each time.
5️⃣ Refine with feedback and reward signals.
6️⃣ Compress and optimize for real-world use.
but here's the fascinating thing:
nobody hardcoded the ability to write software, solve problems or explain science.
much of it emerged from one simple task: predicting what comes next.
and we're still discovering what else they can do.

Unless you're First Nations, your family came here from somewhere else.
Canada is quite literally a country of immigrants.
Imagine being anti-immigration in a country built by immigration.

Wow. I woke up to an impressive number of upset people who apparently don’t understand how LLMs work and can’t cope well with me pointing it out.
An LLM is a statistical next-token prediction model. That’s how it works. It’s an extraordinarily sophisticated calculator performing math you could theoretically do by hand (if you were sufficiently masochistic).
Math doesn’t know what it’s calculating. Pi doesn’t spend its evenings contemplating the nature of circles, and c doesn’t ponder the relationship between matter and energy.
That doesn’t make the results any less accurate, impressive, or useful.
Between inference requests, an LLM isn’t sitting around thinking. It isn’t reconsidering its answers, wondering whether it made a mistake, contemplating its existence, or questioning whether it’s conscious. Its weights remain fixed (it doesn’t learn), and computation resumes when it receives input.
We know this because we designed these systems. The architectures, mathematics, implementations, and research are extensively documented. You can study them yourself.
Of course, some people immediately lean into comparisons of biological intelligence or philosophical debates over consciousness because that is what they know.
But biological intelligence and artificial neural networks are fundamentally different systems. Similar outputs don’t establish equivalent internal experiences.
I experience consciousness directly. I infer that other humans do too because we share biological structures and processes. We don’t have equivalent evidence for an LLM, and nothing about its known operation gives evidence of conscious experience.
Which brings me back to my original point.
To me, understanding is conscious comprehension. It means being aware of information, recognizing its meaning, and experiencing that comprehension. If I wasn’t conscious I could not understand.
We can perform actions unconsciously. We can produce correct results without knowing why they’re correct. But I distinguish those capabilities from consciously understanding what we’re doing.
An LLM can solve complex problems, explain difficult concepts, and produce remarkably accurate information. I give it full credit for those capabilities.
But producing an answer that we rationalize as understanding isn’t the same as experiencing understanding.
You don’t have to agree with my definitions. We can debate functional understanding versus conscious comprehension all day, but that won’t establish whether an LLM actually experiences anything.
The right debate is this…
Could machines exhibit something different from human consciousness, something measurable, meaningful, and worth studying?
I think so, absolutely!
I’m entirely open to discussing “machine consciousness” in terms of observable, testable computational properties. We built these systems, we can instrument them, examine their internal mechanisms, and investigate what they’re capable of.
That seems far more productive than endlessly arguing over whether a machine experiences life the way humans do.
So here’s my question:
How would you define machine consciousness, and more importantly, how would you measure it?

Then he walked straight into MIT and dropped the most raw, unfiltered 60-minute business masterclass ever recorded.
Zero PR bullshit.
Zero image to protect. Just pure, brutal honesty from the man who built Apple once and was about to rebuild it even bigger.

JD Vance’s attack on Microsoft was deeply disingenuous, and Microsoft’s response exposes the fundamental flaw in his argument.
Vance compared layoffs with H-1B filings as though every visa petition represented an American worker being replaced.
Here is what Microsoft actually said:
“Of the approximately 6,000 H-1B visa applications we submitted in the last fiscal year, 80% percent were to extend or change the status of existing Microsoft employees. These were not to hire new people. The remaining filings for new employees were for individuals already legally in the United States who decided to come work for us, and they equal only 1% of our U.S. workforce. They are not new arrivals to our country.”
An extension is not a new hire. A visa transfer is not evidence of an American losing a job. And an H-1B petition is not proof of displacement.
If you want to investigate actual fraud, investigate it. If you want to protect American workers, protect them.
But don’t manipulate immigration statistics to manufacture a scandal.
America deserves an immigration debate grounded in facts, not political theater dressed up as arithmetic.

🚨 JUST IN: Effective immediately the Trump administration has hereby SUSPENDED ADOBE, MICROSOFT, Cognizant, Tata, Infosys, Wipro, HCL, and Capgemini from the Permanent Labor Certification Program
They undercut American workers. THEY FAFO'D
THIS. IS. MASSIVE.
"Since 2009, just these companies alone have requested almost 3 million foreign workers. They've received over 230,000 H1B visas approvals and over 100,000 permanent labor certifications."
"That's hundreds of thousands of jobs that were taken from American workers!"
The age of AMERICA FIRST is ALIVE AND WELL right now
A flurry of companies, including some of the biggest outsourcing giants on the planet. Tata, Infosys, Wipro, and HCL have been H1B pipelines for YEARS
Without PERM, they can't sponsor foreign workers for green cards. The path to keep them here for good is SHUT!
Vance, Stephen Miller, and IG D'Esposito are delivering exactly what Trump promised in 2024!
HIRE AMERICAN, IT IS THAT SIMPLE 🇺🇸

Today marks a new chapter for Windows, as we bring unmetered intelligence to every desk and every home, and make every PC a place where agents can work securely on your behalf.
Some highlights of what we announced:
• MAI-Code-1.1 Flash: 137B parameter coding model w/ 256K context window, which is now optimized to run on your PC!
• GitHub Copilot now hands off work to local models like MAI-Code-1.1 Flash, helping projects cost a lot less without sacrificing quality.
• With Hybrid Intelligence, Copilot can now take action directly on the PC and keep sensitive work on your device.
• And with Code in Copilot, you can essentially build any software you need on your desktop, without any cloud token spend, and it’s just super at it. You’re no longer limited to what’s in an app store! Your PC becomes an infinite software factory.
• Security is foundational to all this, which is why we are also bringing together Windows and Agent 365 so agents can work within secure boundaries on-device, including MXC a local sandbox for agent execution. Windows becomes your secure agent box!
• All this comes to life on a new generation of devices, like Surface Laptop Ultra, powered by NVIDIA RTX Spark.
Can’t wait to see what you build with all this.
