I am officially on @substack . I will be sharing conversations we rarely make space for, messy reflections on life and belonging, the occasional political musings, and of course my F1 rants (Isack Hadjar joining Red Bull is the vibe). Here’s the link saadiaverse.substack.com/
I did the 9/11 series because I wanted to not only mark the anniversary but also look at what came after it. Guantánamo is a big part of that. This episode with @ShayanaKadidal was not an easy one to do but it's an important one. Take a listen if you can, and share it. Link below

I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives. More thoughts below.

We’ve been covering settler violence against Palestinians in the West Bank for years.
But yesterday, we found ourselves on the menu.
A group of masked settlers beat our team and pummelled the 51 year old woman we were interviewing unconscious.
We’re all ok now - and Aida is out of the hospital - but this is just one incident among an unprecedented surge in settler violence across the West Bank.
Here’s out story on yesterday’s attack on Sunday Today on @NBCNews.

He’s blaming genocide victims for why they were targeted. Anyone who votes for him has decided that human rights don’t apply to everyone. Vote him out in 2028!
What disgusts me is the complicity of Democrats and legacy media in protecting lies and manufacturing false narratives. Whether it's Iran, Muslims, or Palestine, the extreme posturing is happening in plain sight. And once you see it, you can't unsee it!
As a Pakistani, I don't say this lightly, Pakistan just helped pull the world back from the edge. Ceasefire negotiations will happen on Friday in Islamabad. It may not last. But for now we celebrate. We don't always get our flowers. Today we do 🇵🇰

"We would be able to totally obliterate them." Word for word Trump. Yet millions of liberals genuinely think this woman was somehow the only thing standing between 'democracy' and barbarity
The most dangerous thing abt Trump's Iran posturing isn't that it's extreme, it’s that it's familiar. Post 9/11 American war machine normalized the erasure of Muslim societies as a precondition for war. Both parties built that playbook. Now we're watching it implode in real time.

Even if Trump is "bluffing," the US may never come back from this. Whether you voted for him or not, the rest of the world sees this guy as our collective will. To everyone else, we are a landmass teeming with viciousness. We have a very high bar to prove that's not true.

This is how insidious Zionism is in popular culture. She critiques capitalism. She lambastes universities for systemic racism & sexism, then sandwiches in campus antisemitism
But who is the antisemitism charge really leveled at? Palestinian students, SJPs, critics of genocide. It is done intentionally to malign Palestinians. And it’s not one instance, the propaganda is pervasive in movies, tv shows, music and so on.
At the end of the day, campuses are systemically anti-Palestinian. They are hyper targeted, harassed, disciplined, and kicked out of school for challenging complicity with genocide.
The reality is that students are simply increasingly anti-Zionist & that hurts the feelings of racists.
If we have the courage to condemn atrocities elsewhere, we must have the courage to condemn them at home too. What Pakistan did in Kabul was an abhorrent act of violence against innocent people. I love Pakistan but loving your country also means holding it accountable. #NoWar

This is horrifying - possibly one of the worst massacres in recent years. A drug rehabilitation hospital? A criminal government and criminal military enacting the violence that was allowed and normalized in Gaza. Expect more of this by every government that wages war.

Re: Priyanka Chopra-
She is a tool of the establishment- in India and in the US. In India she supports fascist Modi, & in the US, she keeps in line with Hollywood liberals.
Her public positions tend to follow whatever is safest for the global celebrity class at the moment. Posting “All Eyes on Rafah” and signing the ceasefire petition was like the performative the black square people posted on Instagram after George Floyd. Her silence on sooooo many important moments has been really loud.
But with her words too- she berated a Pakistani girl a few years ago, for questioning her position as a UN ambassador & supporting India’s strikes on Pakistan, at a public event. (Props to the girl)
Basically, the pattern is obvious. She aligns with dominant narratives wherever she is- nationalist signaling in India & liberal signaling in the United States.
No doubt Priyanka is a good actor & charming in interviews, and she has built a successful brand of herself because of that.
Don’t expect her to be anything more than that. She has no coherent ideology, intellectual sophistication or moral fiber to understand oppression outside of her simplistic narratives like “India doesn’t start wars.”

Muslims get labeled extremists for their faith. Meanwhile US politicians and military leaders are out here launching wars across the Middle East because they believe God promised them a mission and they're are called the civilized ones? Make it make sense.
Don’t fall for the stunt of calling out Laura Loomer’s racism and Islamophobia at the India Today event. The truth is that Loomer was invited precisely because of her enthusiasm for the US–Israel–India nexus and for the vicious Islamophobia she has never apologized for — and never will.
By the end of the conversation there were smiles and nods. Loomer and Rajdeep Sardesai even had a cordial chat after the panel. Because for large sections of the Indian media, Islamophobia is not a matter of life and death - or it’s a punchline.
Now that she has issued an apology for her anti-Indian comments, she will almost certainly use the moment to launch an even bigger assault on Muslims along with the Hindu right wing.
Also worth noting: check the India Today website. The clip in which Sardesai calls out her Islamophobia has mysteriously disappeared from the video.

This is the take.
This is a heartbreaking attack. And it does make me fear for the world my Jewish sons will grow up in.
If a significant portion of Americans metabolize their legitimate anger towards the government of Israel into resentment against Jews as a whole, that is genuinely a more perilous set of affairs than Jews in this country have faced in generations.
Which is why it’s so dangerous that mainline Jewish organizations have spent years insisting unequivocally that “Israel” and “Jews” should, in fact, be conflated. It’s the same rhetoric Nick Fuentes uses—but it’s arguably even more dangerous when it comes from the ADL’s Jonathan Greenblatt.
The logic of Zionism rests heavily on the claim that Jewish safety necessitates a Jewish state. It is largely this desire—to protect our people, whom history has proven need protection—that has led so many national and local Jewish institutions to continue backing the Israeli regime, through apartheid and genocide and more. But this approach is self-defeating. Tying the honor and reputation of our people to the rogue government of an ethnostate is not making us safer. On the contrary, it’s making American Jews more vulnerable to the kind of antisemitic mass politics that we haven’t had to worry about in this country for a long time. That's what my Jewish sons have to look forward to. And it’s not going to change until our mainline Jewish institutions start owning up to the danger they’ve created for all of us and start demonstrating, through their words and deeds, that “Israel” does not, in fact, equal “the Jews.”
Where is the UN? Where is the international community?
As someone who once believed in the power of diplomacy & the rules based world order, I am disgusted by the silence of Nations who could stop this madness & choose not to. History is watching & it will not be kind. Shameful
