rereading Dune and just came across the line βOnce men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them.β Frank Herbert was a prophet
An idea for @sprgovmy to consider for postal votes.
1. Mail out the return envelopes on dissolution.
2. Produce PDF of ballot after nomination.
3. Voters print and mark the ballot.
4. Voters return ballot via authentic envelope.
Minimize delays and stress for voter and worker.
Have a business so good that you need to rate limit authentic customers. π
Khairul Aming has introduced a new booking system for his restaurant Rembayung in collaboration with Grab, hoping to reduce the issue of reservation scalpers.
Under the new system, verified Grab users can only make one reservation every two weeks. Bookings are also non-transferable to prevent people from reselling their slots.
Customers must bring the phone used to make the reservation and open the Grab app for verification before entering the restaurant. Screenshots will not be accepted.
The new booking system is available starting Monday (Nov 2), with Khairul Aming hoping the changes will help make reservations fairer for customers.
Wise words
The future of #ArtificialIntelligence is not pre-determined. As a technology developed by human beings, its future depends on the choices we make. We therefore have the responsibility to guide, change and, when necessary, reject its applications. A reliable system that serves the human person is of greater value than one that is exceptionally powerful but whose consequences cannot be adequately foreseen or controlled.
A question I've asked myself many times. Could you render video frames directly without any frame buffer - cos RAM is expensive in embedded systems.
What if a chip could render a "3D" view inspired by Wolfenstein 3D without a framebuffer? π€
This weekβs Chip of the Week is raybox-zero by Anton Maurovic. It uses ray casting to render a textured 3D-like view of a map, racing the beam to generate the picture live as the VGA signal is sent.

What do you think is the coolest part of this design? π€
Boldly go, where no one has gone before. πππ

There is truth in this.
One hill I'll happily die on: the normalization of "ship fast" culture at the expense of proper SDLC has played a significant role in the quality of vulnerable code being pushed into production and the rise of CVEs and enshitification of software for the last several years.
We've systematically traded engineering rigor for velocity, security assurance for investor confidence, and long-term maintainability for quarterly growth. All things I wish we would second guess and reevaluate.
But the software overlords wanted products yesterday and they got them. And now the rest of us get to spend the next several years discovering exactly which corners were cut and figuring out how to deal with the immense amount of responsibility that's been dropped on our collective feet.
Received this via air-mail today.
It's my 10th year being part of the Disciplinary + Preliminary Investigation Board. Have seen some really interesting cases.
Thank you #TheIET
Nice experiment.
Cannot call it 'stolen' if it was offered up as a bounty though.

The Old Pauliansβ Association has denied allegations that school prefects handled or served alcohol at its centenary reunion dinner on Sept 5.
It said the prefects only served Chinese tea, adding that any foam seen after pouring was caused by natural aeration.

My experience - it's like having a competent intern around 24/7.
Getting done within a day, what used to take a week; and having more fun than with playing my PS5.
Still reviewing the output, and rewriting bits i.e. showing it how it's supposed to be done.
Shine a bright light and suddenly, all the vermin are running to hide. π¦πͺ³π
The ownership of Prosignal Consortium, the company behind TuJu, has come under scrutiny over its links to political figures and former top government officials.
Malaysiakini found that the companyβs website lists Selat Klang assemblyperson Abdul Rashid Asari as an executive director and former IGP Acryl Sani as a non-executive director.
It previously listed Bashah A Aziz and Negeri Sembilan undang Muhammed Abdullah as directors, but their names no longer appear on the website.

Thank you @malaymail for this wonderful infographics!
Recent incidents involving teenagers have raised concerns not just in Malaysia, but around the world.
In her opinion piece, Munira Mustaffa explores how harmful online communities may influence youth violence, and why these incidents deserve closer attention beyond bullying and criminal behaviour.
But are we doing enough to recognise the warning signs before it's too late?
