Drought in Maharashtra’s Beed district has devastated crops and deepened farmers’ debt. Since January, 153 farmers have died by suicide due to farm distress, district data shows. @tabassum_b & @kri_tikka travelled to Beed to report on how the crisis is pushing farmers to the brink.

Four months after their eviction, Pardhi Adivasis in Malad live in fear of the BMC and police, while their former settlement has been turned into a parking lot "When I ask them about the SIR process, they say that 54 names have been deleted from the draft roll. With their homes demolished, they will most likely be disenfranchised. Predictably, the bureaucracy has begun to call them ‘Infiltrators’ – the quasi-official term for the lower tier of (predominantly poor) Indians, who are being stripped of their right to have rights." The drought is hurting farmers in every possible way. 90-year-old Awasrao Powal has seen many droughts . This year, he says, is worse. Most water sources have dried up in his village, Chumbali. “There is no money. There is no work.” @scroll_in scroll.in/article/1096534/as…

Every day at Tata Memorial Hospital @TataMemorial, we see patients facing their cancer with incredible courage. But for many families, the struggle goes beyond the disease — the cost of treatment and just getting by can be overwhelming. This Tata Mumbai Marathon @TataMumMarathon, I’m asking you to join me in doing something about it. You don’t have to run a marathon to make a difference. A donation, however small, can help a patient who really needs it. Let’s come together to make sure that no one has to give up because they can’t afford treatment for their cancer. Please contribute, share this post, and help us reach more people. Every bit counts. ❤️ To contribute to the cause, please click the link here: unitedwaymumbai.org/fundrais… #TataMumbaiMarathon #TataMemorialHospital

Delhi Police detained protesters. Then they beat them. @mrajshekhar was inside Pandwalan Khurd and saw it first-hand: "One youngster was pushed to the floor and beaten there. Another was viciously stamped on." newslaundry.com/2026/10/14/w…

Scoop | Modi Govt mandated coal imports across the country, delivering a bonanza to the Adani Group. States warned this would lead to higher electricity bills. Adani won big, followed by a Gujarat firm with ties to a company that Hindenburg alleged routed funds within Adani Group. I report: scroll.in/article/1096068/ho…

The Delhi Police detained and brutally beat up The Caravan’s assistant multimedia producer, Ryan Thomas, on 11 October. Ryan was covering the protests against Gyanesh Kumar and SIR, which the government has tried to quash with an unprecedented police mobilisation in the capital, with multiple trains and metros halted, and with internet shut down across central Delhi. Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court had directed that, among other things, journalists “shall not be hindered in discharge of their professional duties in any manner whatsoever.” Police tried to seize Ryan phone and force him to delete footage he had recorded.
