an excerpt of my latest article on PSG's midfield where I try to find out the different zone dominators using stats from eight specific games alone

one thing I've learnt about coaching is that you need to let your team challenge you. in fact, you have to encourage it, because if they don't agree with the style of play then the execution will always be suboptimal no matter what. you need to convince them that it is the best.

the only way you can convince them is to let them challenge you and to explain the rationale for your ideas, which means you must've challenged your own ideas first. find your blind spots before them, and present your tactics like you're trying to get them to agree with you.

Rice plays a world class ball into the box for Havertz and the very next action in this comp is him making a goal saving clearance and then the next action is him taking a shot in zone 14. it's ridiculous lol. this is an insane midfielder.

y'all were getting way to chatty about Arteta never winning at Anfield so he locked in and gave you what you wanted. what other questions do we have?

we're not relieving any pressure because no one is putting their foot on the ball. Only Madueke is carrying. I might need to see Myles and Eze by 60 but I worry about the passiveness of the whole team dropping even further by then. Liverpool have been good. Barcola has been great
we've been alright but we're allowing Liverpool too much momentum and it's because we either don't have an outball or we're not executing well. I think Havertz hasn't really had the best of games despite scoring. we need more of those long balls and clearances to stick.

Tottenham are genuinely good now? interesting. ahead of Manchester United too.

the facilitation of a good attack is very much dependent on movement. combinations. transitions. everything is off the ball. there has to be movement in relation to certain frameworks, or everything gets static. whatever attacking system it is, we must have good movers.

my mild didn't really process any of this fast enough during the game, but I was so scared when that tackle came in. my mind went to Ramsey, Diaby, Wilshere immediately. it was a bad tackle, and Dowman was right to protect himself. should've been two yellows and move on.

don't understand how it could be anyone else's fault but the players. it literally doesn't matter. whoever was on that pitch was enough to beat Fleetwood and we didn't win because we didn't apply ourselves properly and we were piss poor in front of goal. it's as simple as that.

if Ballon d'Or is so heavily based on the World Cup, then why was Merino not nominated? Spain don't win that WC without him, no? they understand nuance in some cases but don't in others? interesting.

PL and UCL final while being your team's best player and WC semi final does not get you in the top 10 in the balllon d'Or apparently.

that City loss has been coming for a long time. they have very obvious issues and credit to Emery for exploiting them to give them high quality chances. City need to get a hand on it though. if they lose another game coupled with the drama of the charges, they could fall off.

that Cherki foul rn, he had to do it cos Mazambi was running straight into Guehi Dias would've had to take Jackson and no one would be picking Alyson. Khusanov and Gvardiol were both in the final third. there's no need for Enzo to also be in the final third.
City's rest defence is looking very very disorganised whenever they lose the ball. acres of space in transition for Villa and a lot of responsibility on the CBs. Jackson is pulling CBs high and wide and nobody is picking up the central runners. City attacking with too much bodies

Sorry that goal is unreal shifts through the ankle to beat Anderson but keeps the ball close for an immediate 2nd touch, then roofs it near-high Marc Guehi’s fingerprints too frequently at the crime scene!

tbh I think this just tells us what Arteta values. Havertz drops deep and wide. facilitates our wide triangles. allows us access the centre better and even if we can't, we can arrive into zone 14 from wide areas because of the overloads and combinations there. it's good value.
Replying to @tacticopharm
The issue is teams will not follow you up and just stay deep. That's what many teams do against us in the EPL. They know Havertz is unable to dribble or create from deep spaces, so they can just remain deep. Forest did this expertly, but many elite midblock teams did this as well, like Villa this season. Havertz is also not an elite runner, so even when he tries to stay high and central to run off the shoulder of the last defender, they catch him with offsides a lot this season. He's leading the league by a good margin in offsides.

I will never get tired of singing Declan Rice's praises
Declan Rice you don. Stops the transition at one end then bangs one in at the other end. Sums him up. WORLD CLASS.

we pressed well in the first phase but our M2M wasn't as good as it usually is. Bayern picked us off with runs across and behind our line and really stretched us. I think it was a good test and we will be better prepared for more games like this. we missed Saliba.
contrary to opinion, I like the intent from Arteta today. we could've defended better in moments, but really to have a go at a team like Bayern reduces our chances of winning because they are more suited to a basketball game. they have a better attack. we did well though. not bad
