Found this old drawing from my daughter. It says so much about how I feel. The world goes on, things appear “normal” - as we try to keep going and be strong, especially for our young kids - but it’s not and it never will be. For Annie and Tommy, for Cam and Kristine, for Mike and me and all of mom’s beloved grandchildren: we ache for her, we cry out for answers, we cannot move forward. We need someone to help us, tell us what you know. Our mom was a light in this world. We want to celebrate her and give her the dignity she deserves. The reward is still available. Please. We are begging you. Please help us. Thank you to all those who have been kind, and remind us of the best of humanity. Join us in praying without ceasing. 💛

You must remember that all philosophy is a confession. People become obsessed with stoicism because they are naturally neurotic. That doesn’t mean stoicism can’t help you. If you are neurotic, it will help you a lot. Marcus Aurelius was neurotic. But it does mean you need to update your mental model of “this stoic guru will be stoic” to “this stoic guru will be neurotic.” Thinking the DailyStoic guy must be mentally stable is like thinking someone on anti-depressants must not be depressed.
That face you make when you read the Meditations of Marcus Aurelius 195 times and build an entire career off promoting stoic philosophy but still don't know what it means or how to apply it to your own life. This is modern intellectualism in a nutshell. All knowledge, no wisdom. Virtue signalling without virtue.

It's almost like earth was perfectly created for human beings, literally water falls from the sky and food grows on trees, but somehow we find ourselves trapped in a machine that requires credit scores and a 40 hour work week for existence.

Been remodeling our new home. About $100k of work. Roughly 75% of the contractors we reached out to didn't follow up. The ones who quoted missed details. After the work was done we were almost battling people just to get what we asked for. That's the opportunity. BRING THE GRIT. Follow up. Look people in the eye. Real handshakes. Ask real questions. Get 1% better every day at sales, ops and execution. We all get it. Running a business is hard. Training people is hard. Grit wins anyway.

Imagine a rogue AI agent liquidating your bank account and investment portfolio. If you are the only victim, I suppose you could get made whole by the AI company responsible. If rogue agents liquidate hundreds of billions across millions of accounts, the AI company would go bankrupt and you wouldn’t get made whole. Imposing criminal liability on AI executives might help mitigate it at the front end, but once the crime is complete and you lose everything criminal responsibility will be necessary but completely insufficient.
SCOOP: Major U.S. banks are detecting unauthorized third-party AI agents inside customer accounts, including some attempting to take actions that appear to be independent of user instructions, sources told Axios. The findings have alarmed banking executives, who are racing to restrict access to their systems as AI moves at a velocity faster than financial institutions can respond, multiple industry and bank executives told Axios. Several banks are now preparing for worst-case and even “day after” scenarios, including how to rapidly secure or restore customer accounts if things go wrong, the people said. Several bank executives told Axios they're struggling to distinguish between human users and AI agents. One executive said banks also struggle to determine whether agents are authorized by customers or potentially operating without their permission, more akin to rogue agent behavior. Read my latest for Axios here: axios.com/2026/10/22/ai-agen…

We’ve officially reached the point where it’s easier & takes less time to deliver a fully coded app to a client than it does to design it by hand in Figma.

the real answer is simply that very few people have thought about the language or grammar of software interfaces sufficiently to view it as correctly solved problem. And those people are certainly not training LLMs in that way. Programming has a very obvious headstart in this way.

Had a design consultation today for The Container Pool Company. Found myself doing some live designing during the call, moving things around and working through ideas with the customer in real time Reminded me of my tech days, designing interfaces on the fly with a bunch of people on a call 😅 Except now... I'm designing container pools instead of software. I even pulled up Figma to help us visualize the distance between the house and the pool (second image). The first image is from a little tool I built using Claude. I can enter a property address, pull in site data, and start designing a pool and surrounding deck around the property. Meet a couple of the guys helping me build The Container Pool Company. Juan (left) has spent the last decade running his own excavation company. He'll be leading our installation and construction operations, from site prep and utilities to outdoor living. Sam (right) has a real gift for connecting people, building relationships, and creating opportunities. He'll be helping me with business development. I've always loved the quote (I'm paraphrasing): "Find people who are the best at what they do, and then let them tell you what to do." Plus, when you're stepping into an entirely new industry like I am, you don't really have a choice 😅 We met up yesterday at my favorite taqueria in Fort Worth for some $1.50 tacos (not pictured, we ate them already) and margaritas 🍹. Grateful for their belief in me and the opportunity I have to work with them. CONTAINERPOOLCOMPANY.COM
