Controversial opinion: anyone can write a research article in 1 week if they:
- have a full-time position
- don't need to teach
- don't need to see patients
- don't need to do other research
- have a supervisor who does not micro-manage
- have an annotated reference system (1/X)
- have collected all the data and analyzed it
- had an excellent scientific writing education
- have a caring partner but no kids
- are mentally healthy
- have access to coffee and/or adderall
- do not have coauthors
- And most importantly: do not care about quality.
Of course I'm impressed when I hear success stories like these, and good for you if you're that fast, but lets stop perpetuating the #wunderkind narrative - I believe in privilege in academia, and that some have more than others. #AcademicChatter

Li ho scritto in collaborazione con @EtnEtude !

Remember that phase as a kid where you and your friends shared "secret information" and founded a detective agency that also walks dogs and you called yourself something like "the wild squirrels"?
Asking your friends from other disciplines to be coauthors has the same vibe

Here I’m giving a workshop I’m missing data! It was the last day, but we managed to make it a fun session with lots of laughter anyway — what more can you ask for when you’re teaching stats? 🤩
My first peer-reviewed… sweater pattern is out! 🧶
It’s funny how different crochet and science reviews are. Crochet PR is all about replication, robustness, and external validity: does the pattern hold even when conditions (yarns, makers, sizes) are changed? (1/X)
I think the tone is also quite different. As a creator, I felt it is my duty to make sure my reviewers can properly review, reacting fast, and making changes to enable them to get it done. My reviewers were all very helpful and patient with my initial blunders! (2/X)
Another good thing is that the review times are much faster! It’s been 2 months since “submitting” my pattern to the reviewers, and now it’s online!
Anyway, here’s the link for anyone interested: ko-fi.com/s/46f0463e54
Happy making!
Crocheters don’t have an Elsevier-equivalent. On the one hand, at least we’re not giving away free labour to a huge corp! On the other hand, that means it is a bit harder to find patterns as they’re on all different sites (ravelry, Etsy, etc) and very few are open access.
The review system is a bit different - you organise your own reviewers. Not everyone who reviews is also a creator, so it’s not the give-and-take of science. However, ppl do get a free pattern and more visibility. It’s more a way to be the first to have a new, hot thing
Finally my fave dictionary helps me understand my favourite person better 😌

Instead of h-index, what about computing how likely someone is to work with you again after working with you once?
Can’t wait for the @EtnEtude training week in Budapest coming up in 10 days! Just finished making the last present — for a little cutie there who told me she “regularly visits [my] apartment with her imaginary friend, snail”.
Colleagues’ kids are so cute🥺
