finally got to try the iPhone Duo properly, and here are my impressions. the good AND the bad:
Design & Build
-first thing I noticed is how THICK it is when folded compared to the Z Fold 8.
-feels VERY premium though, genuinely.
-the hinge felt a bit tight, noticeably tighter than the Z Fold 8 imo.
Display
-the outer display is obviously glossy, no nano-texture here.
-the inner display is SO beautiful. and yes, the crease is absolutely still there lol. you can see it and feel it pretty clearly when touching the screen, but it's honestly not that bad.
-one thing I absolutely LOVED is how extremely silky smooth the inner display feels. (unlike z fold 8)
-it also barely picks up any fingerprint smudges compared to Samsung’s inner display, which is a very imp thing imo.
-brightness was never an issue for me. it’s good.
-the bezels are also really thin, especially when you put it next to the Fold 8.
Software & UI
-the software felt INSANELY snappy. app openings, touch response, pretty much EVERYTHING felt ridiculously fast and smooth. somehow felt even snappier than the iPhone 18 Pro Max
-couldn’t test third-party apps since they weren’t available on the demo unit.
-the folding/unfolding animation looks really nice when it works, but it’s still pretty buggy. quite a few times the outer display simply turned off instead of playing the animation.
-multitasking is nice but , I REALLY really wish this thing had an iPad-style dock.
-didn’t encounter many major bugs, but some buttons occasionally wouldn’t respond and there were a few small visual stutters here and there.
Cameras
-the inner under-display camera is honestly TERRIBLE 😭
-the outer camera is okayish, but whatever, you can just use the main cameras for selfies anyway.
-you also get manual camera controls.
-nothing else particularly stood out to me here.
Usability
-had absolutely no issues using it one-handed. maybe because I have pretty long hands lol, might be different for others.
-using it unfolded is just SO cute.
My thoughts
the two things that impressed me the MOST were the snappiness and that silky smooth inner display. didn't expect them to feel THIS good.
-its very heavy too😭
-the Camera control kept activating randomly for NO reason and it happened so many times 😭
-the under display cam is also visible once you finally see it. (not an issue and its moslty even more visble coz of that cutout on the nano texture film)
also the hinge felt a bit TOO tight for my liking. idk maybe that’s just me.
these are my impressions after spending an hour with a store demo unit, not a review.
this test is absolute BS.
you literally put the Duo in a bag of sand mid test, then cooled it down before the display failed at 75K folds.
sand entering the hinge can create pressure points beneath the OLED with every fold and eventually DESTROY the display. even Samsung foldables aren’t immune to this.
add the nonstop folding and extreme conditions, and this is FAR from normal use.
i’m betting the Duo can easily survive 250K+ folds under normal conditions. saying 75K is its actual lifespan is just ridiculous.🤦♂️
Samsung dropping this while Apple is dealing with all those iPhone Duo complaints is actually DIABOLICAL 😭
iOS 27 vs. iOS 18 app opening animations.
absolutely LOVE how the 2 year old one completely MOGS the newer one 😍 xitter.cf/enough_yt/status/21012…
these Duo screen photos are giving me 2019 Galaxy Fold flashbacks 💀
Samsung sent that phone to reviewers and some displays started failing within days. A few people peeled off a layer they weren’t supposed to, but other units broke without that.
they delayed the (april) launch, revised the screen and hinge mechanics, then released it in September later that year.
as the Duo is already out, let’s see what happens.
a recall feels very unlikely tho.
iPhone Duo vs Galaxy Z Fold8 display side by side
both at max brightness, with True tone enabled on the iPhone and Vivid mode (default)on Samsung.
Apple putting THIS much effort into making a beautiful, fully interactive iPod just to hide it on a 404 page most people will never even see is the most Apple thing EVER

it's crazy how iOS 18 still puts iOS 27 to shame in smoothness and stability alone.
Apple used to be SO good at getting even the smallest animations right.
the falloff is unreal
Apple’s first foldable vs Samsung’s first foldable durability test.
Apple had 7 years to learn from Samsung and i really did NOT expect the iPhone Duo to break even easier 💀
the new X app redesign for iPad is absolutely DIABOLICAL ⚰️
the previous version wasn’t perfect but it was much better optimised and had good UI than whatever we have now
how did they manage to make it THIS bad
this is how it looked on iOS 18 and it was SO beautiful.
i don’t even mind the new animations but why did Apple have to get rid of this one 😔
the MrBeast x MediaStorm crossover was NOT on my 2026 bingo card
and someone really photoshopped Tim Pan as MrBeast and MKBHD's baby i'm crying 😭
this is how the iPhone 18 could look if Apple goes with a Pro-style camera island instead of the pill
with the LiDAR and flash on the right side, either way this looks SO weird 😭
