In Loudoun Virginia home to more than 200 data centers, tax revenue from data centers has exploded. As a result, over the past 10years, they lowered the real property tax rate every year from $1.145 in tax year 2016 to $0.805 cents per $100 in assessed value for 2026.

Today, on National Indigenous Peoples Day, we recognize the histories, cultures, languages, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples across Canada. At Alberta Counsel, we are privileged to work alongside Indigenous governments, businesses, and communities as they strengthen their Nations and create opportunities for future generations. Over the past year, we have witnessed Indigenous leaders and communities drive meaningful progress in areas such as economic participation, community development, and long-term sustainability. From education advocacy to advancing grant initiatives and facilitating a $60 million Indigenous Equity investment, these achievements reflect the strength and vision of Indigenous communities. National Indigenous Peoples Day is an opportunity to reflect on the ongoing work of reconciliation and reaffirm our commitment to respectful partnerships that support Indigenous-led success. We are grateful for the trust our Indigenous clients place in us and look forward to continuing that work together. #NIPD #Indigenous #Canada #Alberta #TruthandReconciliation

⛳ A great day on the course at the Northeastern Alberta Aboriginal Business Association (NAABA) Golf Tournament. Members of the Alberta Counsel team were pleased to participate in this year's tournament, connecting with business leaders, community partners, and organizations that contribute to the continued growth and success of Indigenous business across Northeastern Alberta. As a proud T-Box Sponsor, we value opportunities to support events that foster meaningful relationships, collaboration, and economic development throughout the region. Thank you to NAABA for organizing another excellent event.

Proud to see Alberta Counsel represented at the Forward Summit today by our Director of Indigenous Relations, Ted Bauer. Ted joined fellow leaders and changemakers in an important conversation focused on Indigenous workforce participation, economic reconciliation, and building meaningful partnerships that create lasting opportunities for communities across Canada. Events like the Forward Summit help move important conversations into meaningful action, and we’re honoured to be part of that dialogue.

We’re on the ground at #FNMPC26 Alberta Counsel is proud to be attending the First Nations Major Projects Coalition Conference in Toronto, where Indigenous leadership, industry, and investors are coming together to shape the future of major projects in Canada. This year’s theme, “The Next Seven Generations: Our Shared Future,” is a powerful reminder that today’s decisions must create lasting value for generations to come. We’re looking forward to meaningful conversations, new partnerships, and continuing to support Indigenous participation and equity in major projects. #ABleg #ABpoli #CDNpoli #YYZ

Alberta's fiscal year ends in two weeks. With oil prices up, the government's deficit forecast of $4.1 billion is now on track for roughly half that. #ableg

Edmonton is one of the only Canadian cities that actually suffered an ISIS-inspired terrorist attack. The *only thing* that stopped it becoming a mass-casualty incident was the quick action of the Edmonton Police. Think of this when you see this cowardly slug of a man groveling before people who likely think the ISIS attacker had a point.
Mayor Andrew Knack stated he is deeply disappointed and frustrated by the decision of the Edmonton Police Chief to travel to Israel and the Edmonton Police Commission Chair’s approval of this trip. He noted that for many Edmontonians, the violence in the West Bank and Gaza is not distant, with families grieving and worried about loved ones amid unimaginable hardships. He said decisions like these cause real hurt, damage relationships with communities that already feel marginalized, and break trust. He has asked the commission to review how the current policy on travel is decided, particularly given active travel advisories and sanctions in place, and expects the Edmonton Police Chief and Commission to meaningfully connect with the community to repair broken trust.
