A few notes since apparently this paper is going around again. 1) Yes measuring testability and prestige is hard! Please give me your suggestions for better measures. ...

Truck crashes result in 160,000 nonfatal injuries and 6,000 fatalities every year in the US. Hour tracking devices - ELDs - were mandated in 2012, aiming to make trucking safer by stopping truckers driving long hours (by stopping falsification of paper records). Did they?

“The good news is we have a thick literature on the topic at this point.” The thick literature:
The idea that "popular narrative" on minimum wages "turns out to be wrong" because it's not paid attention to "replication" is just wrong. There are tons of replications in minimum wage research. And not just replication, but new research that extends the analysis. Just because a one team wants to critique a paper doesn't make it a "replication failure." The good news is we have a thick literature on the topic at this point. And that body of research strongly shows that to date, minimum wages have raised wages without causing much change in employment.

In 1077, the Holy Roman Emperor stood barefoot in the snow, begging the pope to lift his excommunication. Why did W. Europe's most heavily armed men submit to the mostly unarmed church? New paper: marriage law gave the church its supreme legal jursidiction. 🧵

Reading: Western law wasn't the strong imposing their will, and it wasn't a social contract. Elites opted into third-party adjudication because marriage strategies made private force too risky. Law emerged a la Hume and Hayek: spontaneously.
