For millions of menopausal women, navigating hot flushes, severe fatigue, and brain fog is a daily, silent reality. Breaking this taboo requires open and frank conversations around the issue with women and their families, ensuring no one faces this transition alone. UNFPA India Country Representative Andrea M. Wojnar recently visited the Menopause Clinic at Thane Civil Hospital to understand how dedicated menopause services can facilitate early identification, provide treatment and help address stigma associated with the issue. This facility is part of the Maharashtra government’s pioneering healthcare initiative to support middle-aged women. The clinic demonstrated how menopause care can be integrated into routine public health services. Ms Wojnar praised this first-of-its-kind model for delivering care directly under one roof, providing women from vulnerable communities with information, counseling and medical care. The Government of Maharashtra’s approach is in line with UNFPA’s core mandate: ensuring universal sexual and reproductive health and rights across every stage of a woman's life. These services help women protect long-term health, improve emotional well-being, and enhance overall quality of life.
