Lester Young's solo on Shoe Shine Boy (1936), one of Lee Konitz's favorite solos of all time

Trump's tv-honed persona as a straight-talking & successful businessman can be attractive compared to career politicians afraid to speak plainly. Shouting about real problems was why he won in 2016, but of course he had no competence or interest in actually fixing anything.

Equating crudeness with honesty is a typical error exploited by demagogues and autocrats. (Putin also enjoys speaking like a street thug.) Trump lies constantly. That he does so profanely and prolifically just means he’s an authentically profane and prolific liar.

Uptempo jazz, 400 miles apart
Saxophonist Petr Cancura in Ottawa and pianist Dan Tepfer in Brooklyn, NY play an uptempo version of the jazz standard Billie’s Bounce, in real time, 400 miles apart. A great demo of the level of intricate, rhythmic playing that’s possible over FarPlay at that distance. Petr is Director of the Ottawa Jazz Festival Program, and Dan is co-founder of FarPlay.
For more information about the session, read the rave review of FarPlay from Recording Magazine: blog.farplay.io/recording-ma…

Free improvisation in Bb minor at Pianosalon Christophori Berlin 2 nights ago. Soulful Bösendorfer Imperial grand & super warm audience made for a special night. Thank you Berlin! Tonight (Sunday) I bring Inventions/Reinventions to Leipzig BachFest.
Free improvisation in Db Maj from tonight at Theaterhaus Stuttgart, complete with cowlick (how’d that get past wardrobe??). Quirky little theme came to me right as I started, resolving the 4 to the 5, a very un-Bach thing to do. Whole concert was fun.
Hallo Deutschland! I’m coming to you! Solo concerts of Inventions / Reinventions in Stuttgart, Munich, Berlin, and Leipzig BachFest. Full info at dantepfer.com.
