Last night we saw a $40 spend per head at one of our artist’s shows on #merch alone. That’s more than double what the ticket to the show cost – at Hackney, London

truly honoured to have broken down the quietly essential music merch market for @water_and_music + @residentadvisor, with a little help from @tersha and @andthe_machine 🧢👕

It’s that time of year again where I remind new founders to enter @The_Pitch - so much our success is down to things I learnt being part of this! Link below:

Huge congrats to @MurderCapital_ on a first Irish Number 1 AND highest UK placing for ‘Gigi’s Recovery’ this week! 🎉
Almost all music industry conversations eventually lead to the subject of superfans (and money) We spent a whole evening talking about it last week and you can read about it below
🙏@katolivia94 for inviting me to @water_and_music's Wavelengths #3

q of the night: in the internet's infinity & ever-sought realization of the 1000 true fans prophecy, how do we find each other?

The compromise we’re seeing more of lately is that some venues are now taking ‘rent’ for the merch table, which isn’t ideal, but it’s a lot less than the usual 20-25% and it’s more in line with treating merch like the retail operation it is
You probably won’t have an opportunity to fund anything cooler than this for a while - Help Sarah get a bionic arm - yup you read that right. If you can’t fund, sharing is as good! gofund.me/220aaa95
Fans are spending $36.50 per head at shows on merch this week. That’s $11 more than the average ticket to a show cost them. In 2022 merch is what CDs were to the music industry in 2000. The problem now is that everyone in live music is inventing new ways to take a piece of merch
Our holiday gifts of socks will be going out very soon and for every pair we gift, we’ll also gift a pair to a local homeless shelter. Socks are one of the most needed and least donated items at shelters so if you don’t want/need/like your socks from us you can donate them!
Some of the men of music merch talk about how you can’t illegally download a t-shirt (like it’s 2008) and there’s a lack of research/imagination about to handle merch in Europe post brexit, but the @guardian is right about merch saving the music industry theguardian.com/music/2022/o…
Still stand by this! Rip the band-aid off and move on (Don Draper style)

@Tersha fundraising advice saved me:
"When investors say no, they are dead to you.
Push them to a decision quickly and move on politely and immediately.
Your mental health and business depend on it!"
Over-investing your emotions with investors is crushing.

Please read and support for some really cool stuff in exchange. Independent record labels are incredibly important to music, artists and fans. This is record label equivalent of all your gear, merch and records stolen from your van on tour (but on a much bigger scale)
Once again posting this link for anyone who’s been affected by awesome merchandise. My inbox is so full that it’ll be a while before you get the answers you need fast. I appreciate the referrals, but also understand the urgency - see link below

I’m not going to comment on what’s happened with awesome merch, but due to the overwhelming number of requests we had this week we’ve made this page so you can find out if we are right for you without waiting for your turn in our inboxes terrible.group/how-we-work

@tersha of @terrible_group provided a reality check on the current state of web3, and advocated for listening to fans; "It starts with knowing what your fans want and engaging with them on that level. There’s no point making something your fans don’t want."
