The arts remain central to many of our lives including remembering the legacy of the past and recording lived experiences. So it's very disappointing that @ArtsCouncilNI has failed to help fund the highly anticipated/important #McGurks play by Martin Lynch hotpress.com/culture/martin-…

Following a review hearing this morning, the trial of UVF gunman Laurence Maguire for conspiracy to murder Eamonn, Liam, Gerard, and Rory Cairns in October 1992 has been provisionally moved forward to begin October 12, 2026 (pending a review hearing next Friday). Maguire pleaded not guilty to a litany of charges on July 6, 2026.
Our thoughts, as always, are with Sheila, Eamonn, Liam, Póla, Roisín, Dualtach, Barra, Faílenn, Rory Óg, and the wider Cairns clan. Almost 33 years since Gerard and Rory’s murder, the Cairns family continue in their pursuit of justice with such dignity and strength as they navigate these arduous processes.

Disappointedly, Arts Council NI turned down the play for a much needed grant in its final stages, so the great public has stepped up to help us raise funds we need. The show will go on!

🚨🗣️NEW: Robert Hamill’s sister speaks after inquiry finds police failings obstructed investigation into sectarian killing
🎥Diane Hamill addresses the media in Armagh following the publication of the Robert Hamill Inquiry’s final report this afternoon.
📄⚠️The inquiry - first established in 2004 - found serving RUC officers were guilty of multiple 'wrongful omissions' which arose both at the scene and during the investigation into Robert Hamill’s murder in Portadown almost 30 years ago.
Hamill was 25 when he was beaten by loyalists in the early hours of 27 April 1997 and later died from his injuries. Nobody has been convicted of the killing.

The dignified words of Diane and the family of Robert Hamill should be earnestly heard and listened to.
It is a considered and measured response to devastating findings of appalling failings by state agencies, and far too long a wait for this report.

Despite Des McAlea and I being eyewitnesses to the murder of our band-mates, we have never been interviewed by the Irish authorities. And although British soldiers were involved, the Irish government eagerly awaits Britain’s Operation Denton’s gaslighting report into the murders.
