Switzerland loves triathlon more than any other country once you allow for population. I ranked seven nations per head on Olympic medals, Ironman titles, clubs and registered triathletes. The Swiss came first, Australia second, and Britain and the USA last.
The raw totals tell a different story. Britain has 11 Olympic medals and wins the age-group medal tables, and the USA has 30 Ironman titles and the most triathletes. New Zealand's federation says one Kiwi in forty races, but it has only 2,568 registered athletes.

People keep asking what I actually train on rather than what I review, so the Gear I use page now lists all of it. Garmin Forerunner 970 races, Apple Watch Ultra 4 handles everyday, and a Polar Verity Sense sits on my arm as the reference sensor behind every test I publish.
Three Cervelos, Wahoo head units instead of a Garmin Edge, and three years of Eight Sleep that has added 10 to 20 minutes of deep sleep a night.

Garmin running power reads about 30 per cent higher than Stryd, Coros and Apple in my tests, and neither number is wrong. Garmin adds up the mechanical work of each stride, while Stryd scales its watts to track metabolic cost.
The bigger weakness is wind. Garmin takes it from a weather forecast, so a sheltered park run on a windy day still gets a headwind correction. I switched to a Stryd for that reason.

An Apple Watch on its own added 1.2 km to an hour on the treadmill in one developer's test, a 16% over-read, because without GPS it guesses distance from your stride.
Klemy Treadmill switches that guess off. On a Bluetooth treadmill it takes the belt's own distance, and on any other you set the console speed in the app. His run with it came out within 1% of the console.

Before drawing CAMIX 9, its developer read more than 8,000 Connect IQ store reviews to see what Garmin owners hate about watch faces. Limited fields topped the list, then seconds that can't be turned off.
So CAMIX 9 lets either data slot show any of 65 metrics, has a real seconds switch and runs on 66 AMOLED and MIP watches. When owners said the text was too small, he shipped larger digits within days and a Big Time layout within five weeks.

The battery percentage on your watch is an estimate, and much of what we do to protect it is folklore built on a bit of real chemistry. I put the usual questions to Richard Nicholson, who spent 25 years designing battery management chips and now runs Overlord Labs.
Charging to 100% the night before a race costs you almost nothing. Leaving a warm watch sat at 100% for a week is what ages the cell. Draining to zero tidies the gauge but restores no capacity. And a watch that dies in the cold at 20% hasn't lost that charge; it just can't reach it until it warms up.

Garmin still has no HYROX profile, so most athletes press LAP into a renamed Cardio activity and hope they don't miss one. Hybrid Smash is a Connect IQ app that names every run, station and Roxzone, and undoes a wrong press.
In the developer's Men Pro race, it showed Wall Balls at 13:50, over a quarter of his station time, and runs slowing to 5:29 after the sleds. It's a one-time purchase, around EUR 9.99, with no subscription.

If 16 of your 20 runs this month were easy, you might think you trained 80/20. Count the heart-rate minutes instead and it can be closer to 60/40, because warm-ups, recoveries and drifting easy runs all land in different zones.
Zonometry is a free iPhone app that shows both counts side by side from your Apple Health data, on a running track coloured easy, moderate and hard. There's no account, and the data stays on the phone.

Pyre Fitness puts a mounted enemy on your live GPS trail, and when you ease off it gains on you. In the developer's real test run, the Crown Rider closed from 16 seconds behind to six in about 30 seconds as his pace slowed from 9:41 to 11:37 per mile.
Distance also moves a 40-mission voiced fantasy campaign forward, and the chase shows on Apple Watch. It's iPhone only for now, at $9.99 a month or $59.99 a year.
