This says it all. Returning from our National Fishing Remembrance Service in Lerwick and we pass the house of a local supporter proudly flying our flag on this day.
That's what this day is all about - community.

Proud to represent the Fishermen's Mission and all active and former fishermen and the families at the Merchant Navy memorial at Trinity Square Gardens today. Lest we forget.
Fascinating to listen to Peter Sparkes, Chief Executive of the RNLI, discuss the organisation's future planning at a delayed 200th anniversary event held at the Northern Lighthouse Board in Edinburgh.
Privileged to have attended today's service of thanksgiving for the life of Peter Lewis-Crown OBE - a wonderful supporter of the Fishermen's Mission and a Vice Patron of the charity till his passing last year. RIP PLC.
A privilege to attend the annual Merchant Navy Day Commemorative Servive this afternoon at Trinity Square Gardens.
Healthy, affordable, British . . . What is there not to love about fresh fish?
With new season Scottish herring now appearing in our fishmongers and supermarkets, make this delicious fish one of your 'two a week'.

Delighted and forever grateful to the attendees at the Fishing News Awards who generously donated £2,228 to The Fishermen’s Mission at tonight's dinner and awards ceremony. Thank you so very much for your continued support.

This #BlackFriday, let’s think beyond the deals. Instead of getting swept up in the £7B spending spree, why not give back to communities that need it most? 💙

ALT Two men stand in a yard surrounded by lobster pots. One is wearing fishing gear. Text on the top says "BLACK FRIDAY?! We've got better things to catch than 'deals'. GIVE BACK FRIDAY'. Where it says 'GIVE BACK FRIDAY', the word 'BACK' is sitting over the word 'BLACK' which is crossed out. The Fishermen Mission's logo sits in the bottom right corner.
This weekend, please think about those who have served our country. Many paid the ultimate price; many are still paying. Buy a poppy and you will be helping them and remembering all others. Lest we forget.
A good debate with some excellent comments - we must always remember that we are an island nation and working on our seas is core.
Secured by @RupertLowe10 MP, a Westminster Hall debate yesterday heard MPs, including several @FisheriesAPPG Members, discuss the future of UK #fishing. Listen to the full debate here: loom.ly/uD5mPmA
". . . weave and leap in it rich and slippery
m the flash and shapes of fishes through the cold sea-
streets But with blue lazy eyes the fishermen gaze at
that milkmaid whispering water with no ruck or ripple
as though it blew great guns and serpents and typhooned the town."
"Herring gulls heckling down to the harbour where the
fishermen spit and prop the morning up and eye the
fishy sea smooth to the sea’s end as it lulls in blue
Green and gold money, tobacco, tinned salmon,
hats with feathers, pots of fish-paste, warmth for the
winter-to-be . . ."
A little late, but last Sunday, 27 October 2024, marked the 110th anniversary of the birth of Dylan Thomas.
'Under Milk Wood' captures much about life and loves in a small village, including that of fishermen - for that I pay tribute:
We are pleased to hear all were recovered safely. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c3vl…
