Carbon is a macronutrient, and you can feed it at the roots just like nitrogen or potassium. On Tea & Terps, Nik explains why Rooted Leaf was built on that idea 🧵
Every leaf breathes through pores called stomata, and potassium is what opens them. Nik on @GrowcastPodcast 🧵

Inside the cell, potassium activates many enzymes; some forms of pyruvate kinase hold it in their active site. Nik likens an enzyme without it to "somebody sleeping at night."

Practical takeaway: keep potassium in a balanced feed, and check watering and roots before calling wilting a potassium problem. rootedleaf.com #PlantScience #Potassium #Photosynthesis
Too much nitrate going into flower can change the shape of your tops. Nik on Tea & Terps on the signs he watches for 🧵

In one trial, all-nitrate feeding from day one of 12/12 gave taller plants and longer tops than feeds with some ammonium, and the most flower. In another, nitrogen past 160 mg/L in flower added leaf but no more flower.

Practical takeaway: if tops come in stretchy and leafy, check the nitrate in your flower feed first and try changes on a few plants. rootedleaf.com #PlantNutrition #Nitrogen #GrowTips

Terpenes make up a few percent of cured cannabis flower, yet the skunky note comes from sulfur compounds present only as a trace. Nik on Tea & Terps on why the tiniest compounds smell the loudest 🧵

Nik: "They're the best guest at the party, but they come late and leave early." In one study the sulfur compounds appeared only late in flowering and fell sharply within 10 days in jars.

Practical takeaway: a terpene panel doesn't report these trace sulfur compounds, so judge aroma with your nose next to the lab sheet and keep cured flower sealed. More at rootedleaf.com #PlantScience #Terpenes #Aroma

Add CO₂ to a grow room and the stomata close a little, while the leaves still take in more carbon. Nik on Stoned & Successful on why that happens 🧵

Cannabis leaves show it too. Measured at 700 ppm against 390 ppm, leaves of four varieties made about 38 to 48% more net photosynthesis, with roughly 2.5 to 3 times the leaf water-use efficiency.

Practical takeaway: when you add CO₂, log daily water use next to your ppm readings. More grow science at rootedleaf.com #CO2 #PlantScience #GrowTips
