The challenge for Africa has been on structures of governance, education and beliefs shared that are not aligned to us as Africans. It is our role as young Africans with the zeal for a better Africa to recraft this.

This morning, the Mission was honoured to welcome Dr. Chris Kiptoo, Principal Secretary for the National Treasury, as he advances Kenya–Korea economic and development cooperation through his engagements in the Republic of Korea.
I paid a courtesy call on Amb. Prof. Emmy Kipsoi, Kenya’s Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, at the Embassy of the Republic of Kenya in Seoul.
I commended the Ambassador and her team for their efforts to strengthen Kenya–Korea relations and, in particular, promote Kenya as a destination for trade, investment and mutually beneficial partnerships.
Her work continues to attract Korean investment while expanding opportunities for technology and skills transfer, higher education for young Kenyans, and new pathways for Kenyan entrepreneurs, innovators and workers.

This morning, the Principal Secretary, State Department for Environment and Climate Change @Eng_F_Ngeno held a consultative meeting with the Co-Chairs of the Joint Sector Working Group for Environment and Climate Change to deliberate on strengthening the effectiveness and impact of the Group’s engagements.
The discussions focused on identifying key thematic areas for future sector meetings, with an emphasis on ensuring that partners’ projects and programmes are better aligned with and urgently respond to the priorities of the Government of Kenya.
The meeting also explored strategies to broaden participation in the Joint Sector Working Group by onboarding other climate change-relevant sectors, the private sector and civil society. This approach seeks to strengthen coordination and partnerships towards a truly Whole-of-Government and Whole-of-Society approach to addressing Kenya’s environmental and climate change priorities.
In attendance were;Dr. Eng. Dorian Kivumbi, Head of Green Growth & Livelihoods Sector and Current Co-Chair, Sanne Willems, Team Leader, European Union Delegation to the Federal Republic of Somalia, Thomas Yatich, European Union, Mikkel Klim Team Leader, Climate Diplomacy, Embassy of Denmark in Kenya and Incoming Co-Chair Elizabeth Matioli, Embassy of Denmark in Kenya Nyamasege Ruth, Country Facilitator, NDC Partnership.

On the sidelines of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) COP17 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, the Principal Secretary for Environment and Climate Change @Eng_F_Ngeno, held a bilateral meeting with Dr. Susan Chomba of the World Resources Institute (WRI)to explore opportunities to strengthen collaboration on landscape restoration, sustainable land management and financing for nature.
The discussions focused on translating Kenya’s ambitious restoration commitments into measurable, investable and community-owned programmes, including the implementation of the 15 Billion Trees Programme. Particular attention was given to strengthening monitoring systems and datasets to track restoration outcomes, improving access to quality planting materials, and ensuring restoration interventions respond to the priorities of communities and wider ecosystems.
The meeting also explored opportunities to mobilise and better package financing for restoration through the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and other innovative financing mechanisms. The discussions underscored the importance of developing larger, integrated programmes that build on ongoing initiatives rather than fragmented projects, while strengthening the links between science, policy and finance.
The PS and WRI further discussed strengthening community-based approaches by working with local organisations to build ownership and ensure that investments deliver tangible benefits at the landscape level. They also explored opportunities to strengthen Kenya’s institutional capacity to mobilise environmental finance and develop bankable programmes in the forestry, water and landscape restoration sectors.
The Ministry looks forward to continued engagement with WRI and other partners in advancing high-impact, science-based and community-driven solutions that accelerate Kenya’s land restoration ambitions and contribute to the implementation of the UNCCD and other national environmental commitments.

Sometimes people ask whether conservation has significance other than aesthetics and the ecosystem. Definitely, and the earlier we know how green careers come in place, the better for the coming generation.

What if the biggest environmental solutions in this country are sitting inside a classroom right now, just waiting for the right time?

Thank you for walking the journey with us through Kibera. Remember the moment we promised to tell you about? Johnson reminded us again that the day he got a pen, it gave him the confidence to write, to dream and to believe.

I am attending the 17th Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), taking place from 17–28 August 2026 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
Held under the theme “𝑹𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑳𝒂𝒏𝒅, 𝑹𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑯𝒐𝒑𝒆” the conference brings together 197 Parties to address some of the world’s most pressing environmental challenges, including desertification, land degradation and drought, while advancing solutions to build resilience and restore our lands.
This is taking place just months before world leaders convene in Türkiye for COP31 in November. COP17 is a critical but often lesser-known global platform shaping the international response to land degradation, drought, and climate resilience.
