If I ran a uni (eg ANU) into the ground and I wanted everyone to think it wasn't my fault, I'd absolutely ask that the 'community' of my employees cut their own pay in order to 'save' their own jobs, even if it didn't work, just so that they felt like the damage was theirs to own
Re free school lunches in qld - absolutely yes. I work in education policy and have a note on my desk that I scribbled down in a meeting about canteens that says "maybe canteens are not the answer" - maybe we don't rely largely on women's unpaid labour (P&Cs) to sell food - -
Maybe, actually, all kids need to eat good food, and some of them don't get to, maybe we start with that premise and work from there, and maybe you'd come up with something like free school lunch being, actually, obvious - -

Instead of saying, “Professors and students are not criminals” try saying,
“While there is a lower class, I am in it, while there is a criminal element, I am of it, and while there is a soul in prison, I am not free.”

Joining a union is essentially saying you’re ready to throw down for any worker, even a stranger, and you know without having to ask that they’ve made the same promise to you. Metal as hell, everyone should do it
maybe a spicy take but personally if I was seeking to hold public office I would take the (usually lucrative) steps towards simply not being a landlord

We threw a surprise party for my friend who was on the union bargaining team when the enterprise agreement got voted up with 94% voting “yes”
What they don't tell you about post-ac careers is that one day your boss will make you delete the word 'quinquennial' from your report on the basis of being extremely wanky
psa if you're an academic who seeks to influence public policy with your research but you have 0 open access pubs.....no you don't
