Kant's anthropology lectures on the art of memory:
'Memory is like an archivist. A memory can be arranged by art, if one brings every representation into the compartments of the sciences where it belongs: that is memoria localis.' Anthropologie Mrongovius (1784–85), AA XXV, 1273

Built quite a few mods at work this week. As this article argues, they serve as a kind of "attention interface" for ephemeral UI when you need to make decisions. I imagine a great number of people are working on custom harness + generative UI paradigms atm latent.space/p/claude-mods/
Listening to the Jesu self-titled album for the first time in at least a decade. Unbelievable that this is from 2004, so many "doomgaze" bands going for this sound these days. jesu.bandcamp.com/track/frie…

Wonderful volume with some hard-to-find pieces in. Printed in Havana in 1981, with an unmistakable odor of stale cigar smoke.
In the Bioy Casares book, Borges says that Valéry was 'a very clever man with no talent for litrature' and that 'Le Cimetière marin' features 'a papier-mâché ocean' where 'no breeze blows' 😭
Interesting that "jobs" for these people can only possibly mean the type of postindustrial service economy make-work you see in less commoditised states (and which contemporary models could well replace)...
.@jamespoulos on why Anthropic's UBI-like proposal could become a bribe to surrender your humanity:
"Interesting to see a company do this instead of a government, which shakes up some of the preexisting ideological stances on UBI."
"You read the sci-fi corpus and you quickly learn that you can be very optimistic within a dystopian setting or very pessimistic in a utopian setting."
"One corporation eats everything, no one owns their data, total surveillance state. But you can have an optimistic UBI: we’re gonna send everyone money so that they can preserve their humanity."
"The flip side: a utopian AGI world. But we’re gonna give everyone money to basically bribe them to surrender their humanity and become food or battery packs or biological bootloaders for this post-human intelligence."

Why does so much new music sound the same? Why does a song feel almost worthless when you can stream every album ever recorded for the price of one CD?
And... is software next?

“It is a fact as marvelous as it is true, that poetry, which by its nature… seeks out what is beautiful, and philosophy, which… searches for the truth… should be the faculties that are most similar to each other…” [Zibaldone 3383-6]
