Most of us already know what supports better health, but the challenge is making those behaviors part of daily life. And today @Thrive Global and @Deloitte are launching a strategic relationship that makes it easier for people to move from awareness to action so they can build healthier habits and improve their health — one Microstep at a time. Currently, most U.S. healthcare spending is reactive, focused on treating illnesses and conditions after they occur. But Deloitte estimates that proactive “well-care” could save the country up to $2.2 trillion a year in medical and pharmacy costs. This number captures the enormous opportunity we have to move the needle. By bringing together Thrive’s AI-powered behavior change platform and Deloitte’s experience in health care transformation, data and analytics, digital innovation and large-scale implementation, we’ll help organizations harness the science-backed power of our daily behaviors — food, movement, sleep, stress management and connection — and scale behavior change to help people build healthier habits and routines. And starting in October, Deloitte will incorporate Thrive content across key areas of health into the wellbeing resources available to its U.S. workforce. Learn more about how Thrive Global and Deloitte are helping organizations support health and wellbeing through behavior change here: thriveglobal.com/deloitte

We have an epidemic of chronic diseases in America, which in large part is fueled by what we eat and drink. So it might surprise you to learn that this epidemic is being subsidized by taxpayer dollars. According to the USDA, approximately 20% of the yearly $113 billion from  SNAP, or the food stamp program, is used to buy unhealthy beverages and foods like soda and candy. This means taxpayers are paying twice — once to subsidize the purchase of the products and a second time to pay for the treatment of their hugely costly health consequences. SNAP is administered by the states but managed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. States wanting to make changes in SNAP benefits need to seek a waiver from the federal government. On May 19th, Nebraska was granted the first waiver allowing a state to prohibit purchases of soda and energy drinks through the SNAP program. Waiver requests have since been approved for Indiana, Iowa, Arkansas, Idaho and Utah, and requests from several other states are pending. Through the years, the idea of not using SNAP to subsidize soda and candy has had bipartisan support. We’re now approaching a tipping point that puts actual systemic change in reach. In my new piece in @TIME out today, I look at how we got here and why the government should use all levers at its disposal. We know that government policy can tip the scales toward sickness or toward health. We now have momentum for fundamental change that could improve the health of millions of people. We need to do everything we can to keep the momentum going. You can read more here: bit.ly/46cqyGU

Very excited to announce that @Thrive Global is now working with @EliLillyandCo to embed our behavior change tools and resources on LillyDirect and in traditional Lilly consumer channels to complement Lilly’s medicines with the proven power of healthier habits. And I’m thrilled that Lilly has invested in Thrive AI Health, the company created by Thrive Global and the OpenAI Startup Fund to build a hyper-personalized AI health Coach, joining as strategic investors as part of their pursuit of innovation in improving health outcomes. As the research shows, medicine plus healthy behaviors beat either alone. This new partnership reflects the forces that are converging to transform healthcare at this moment: an awakened consumer base hungry for more control of their health, the hyper-personalization made possible by AI, and the latest science on how healthier habits strengthen the power of medicines, including by improving medication adherence. Looking forward to how this partnership will bring the power of consumer engagement and the power of AI together to promote healthier lifestyles and help improve health outcomes. bit.ly/3Pu0aig

Proud to be a part of this amazing partnership with @ariannahuff's @thrive Global and Blue Shield of California Promise Health Plan by donating @NinjaKitchen appliances to help make healthy eating more accessible for individuals and families.
Eating isn’t just something we do because we have to. Food is part of who we are, how we spend time with friends and family and connect to our culture. I’m a Greek immigrant. Many of my best memories are from my childhood in Athens, where my mother loved to cook. My sister and I would come home from school, and we’d sit around the kitchen table for long meals that always ended with walnuts dipped in Greek honey. To this day, I take every opportunity to recreate these cherished moments around the table with family and friends. How and what we eat is one of five daily behaviors we focus on at Thrive – along with sleep, movement, managing stress and connecting with others – to improve our health. With the new @Thrive Global Cookbook, our aim is to share simple, healthy and delicious recipes and ways that can make healthy eating affordable, easy and fun. With over 60 breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack and drink recipes from renowned chefs and food experts, including Ina Garten, @chefjoseandres, Daniel Humm, @DianeKochilas, @CandiceKumai and @MonaVand, as well as dozens of creative swaps and tips for healthy eating, cooking and shopping curated by Tess Bredesen, Thrive’s Nutrition Director, the Thrive Global Cookbook helps readers plan and prepare easy-to-make meals with nutritious, budget-friendly ingredients. I hope the recipes in this cookbook show how you can make easy and affordable meals that are both delicious and healthy. We are proud to partner with @BlueShieldCA Promise Health Plan to bring this cookbook to so many people. And especially meaningful to me in this holiday season is that the Thrive Global Foundation is teaming up with @SharkNinja to not only give out the cookbook but also kitchen appliances, like blenders, food processors and cookware, to empower people to prepare these nourishing recipes with ease. Walmart associate Jimmy Hartsfield wanted to get healthy for his new daughter Lynnon, who was born after a 4-year IVF journey. So as part of the Thrive Challenge he got more active, playing with her and their new puppy in the backyard, going on walks, and making time for activities that bring joy, like going on family hikes. As a Thrive Challenge winner, he and his wife Kylie plan to use his $15K award to cover any additional costs beyond the money @Walmart provides for IVF through @WeAreKindbody, as they aim to grow their family next year. And now he’s doing the Challenge with Kylie. As he says, "We’re making time to connect. I tell her what I’m grateful for, like when she fixes the coffee or makes me my favorite healthy snack — yogurt and berries. In the evening, we’ll turn off our devices and talk about our hopes and dreams.” Read more about Jimmy's inspiring story on @Thrive Global here: bit.ly/4fvyntF

“I have a big heart and always want to help.” I love the spirit of Deb Knopsnider from @Walmart Supercenter #1765 in Somerset, PA. After the devastating loss of her husband, Deb found solace and joy in a Microstep of setting aside time for her passion: music. She also started food swaps, like eating oatmeal with blueberries instead of sugary cereal, and stretching every morning, which eventually led to taking up speed walking. Deb’s resilience and dedication to spreading positivity is one of the reasons why she was awarded the $10K Thrive Challenge Grand Champ award. As she said, "A lot of our customers know me and if they’re feeling down, they’ll confide in me. I have a big heart and always want to help." Read more about Deb’s inspiring journey here: bit.ly/3WoeWue #ThriveChallenge #ThriveGlobal

Today Sam Altman and I published a piece in TIME sharing our vision for how AI-driven personalized behavior change can transform healthcare and announcing the launch of Thrive AI Health, a new company funded by the OpenAI Startup Fund and Thrive Global, which will be devoted to building an AI health coach. The company’s mission is to use AI to democratize access to expert-level health coaching to improve health outcomes and address growing health inequities. As @sama and I write, AI could go well beyond efficiency and optimization to something much more fundamental: improving both our health spans and lifespans. With AI-driven personalized behavior change, we have the chance to finally reverse the trend lines on chronic diseases like diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, which are directly related to daily behaviors but not distributed equally across demographics. DeCarlos Love — a brilliant product leader passionate about improving health outcomes — has left Google to become Thrive AI Health’s CEO, and I’m very much looking forward to working with him. And The Alice L. Walton Foundation is joining us as a strategic investor to help us scale our impact to underserved communities and reduce health inequities. AI has become central to @Thrive's mission to improve health and productivity outcomes, and I’m incredibly passionate about the opportunity to leverage AI to deliver hyper-personalized behavior change across the five key behaviors that Thrive focuses on and that govern our health: sleep, food, movement, stress management and connection. The AI health coach will be embedded in Thrive’s behavior change platform and we look forward to bringing this innovative offering to the market. Read more in @TIME: bit.ly/3WbFQ9I

It was great to launch @Thrive Global’s partnership with @TiffanyAndCo at The Landmark, their newly transformed flagship location on 57th St. and 5th Ave., together with Christopher Kilaniotis, Tiffany President and CEO - Americas, Mary Bellai, Global CHRO, and moderator Stephanie Oueda Cruz, VP - Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging. We shared practical strategies and Microsteps to improve employees’ mental, emotional, physical, and financial well-being. As Tiffany reintroduces their newly unveiled global headquarters to the world, they're also launching a comprehensive well-being initiative, My Tiffany, which Thrive will be a part of. My Tiffany brings together all of Tiffany’s benefits to support Tiffany employees’ well-being through every stage of life. I loved what Mary said on the topic of belonging: "Belonging means something different for every single person. That's why Thrive naturally fits beautifully into it. What we realized is that at Tiffany and @LVMH, people make the difference. And when you're at your personal best, both personally and professionally, you're addressing all of the attributes of well-being — that's when you know you're at optimal performance."

At Thrive, we’re avid users of @perplexity_ai, and thrilled to be among the launch customers using Perplexity Enterprise Pro. I recently had lunch in San Francisco with @AravSrinivas, co-founder of Perplexity, whose mission is to make searching for information online feel like you have a knowledgeable assistant guiding you. And that’s exactly what it does. Perplexity allows users to go deep into exactly what they’re looking for, far beyond what you get with traditional search engines. At @Thrive, we focus on how five essential daily behaviors — sleep, food, movement, stress management and connection — impact nearly every aspect of our health, helping us both prevent disease and optimize the treatment of disease. Perplexity helps us find the latest peer-reviewed medical research on daily behaviors to incorporate into too-small-to-fail Microsteps so people can make immediate and meaningful improvements in their health. perplexity.ai/hub/blog/perpl…
