Yesterday when I FaceTimed my kids from the hospital, my 6yo wouldn’t even look at the phone. His dad kept talking for him. Every time I asked a question to my kids, my N’ex would immediately follow up with another question to them redirecting the conversation 🚩
When I left my abusive husband, these were the ‘reasons’ he gave our then 5-year-old son:
“Mummy listens to the lies of demons. We need to pray to take the demons out of her.”
“Mummy cares more about herself than she cares about you. If she wanted you to be happy, she wouldn’t have left me.”
“Mummy is weak and made a big mistake. She broke promises to God.”
“Mummy broke up our family. Families must always stick together no matter what.”
These weren’t explanations, they were weapons.
Abusers will manipulate, exploit, and harm their own children with incredible cruelty to punish their partner for leaving.
This is why we have to keep speaking up and fighting for children’s right to safety, truth, and love.
