Why not just increase the number of seats each election until proportionality returns?
This would give us an 870 seat parliament which is both a good bit and proportional
There are concerns about the increasing size of parliament due to overhang seats from National and Te Pati Māori .
I asked AI to estimate how seats would be allocated if the German system was applied to keep parliament at 120 seats. The outcome is below. National loses 7 electoral seats in order of their marginality. Te Pati Māori is left with a single seat.
I’m wondering if this is what the complainants have in mind?
As you can see this disincentivizes single ticket strategies. TPM would need to lift their party vote significantly to achieve the number of seats they have often achieved in the past.
Generally happy with my prediction & haven’t changed it.
Even if they end up out of govt, it’s clearly been incredibly close & depends on the stars aligning for the opposition.
NZ History: On 7th Nov 2007 a subspace bubble attack took place at the rear exit of Waitemata (then Britomart) station.
Surprisingly, the government investigation found nothing. Coverup?
