Not a Versace photoshoot, this portrait was taken 108 years ago, on Saturday 3rd March 1918. As the Great War raged, French photographer Paul Castlenau travelled to Arabia (in the area now known Jordan) to take this autochrome of Fayz Bey el Azm (one of the court entourage of Prince Faisal).
Fayz Bey el Azm was a Syrian. Many people aren't aware of the incredible genetic diversity within Syria. Light features like blue eyes and blonde hair are completely native to the region and have been since ancient times.
This portrait was taken using an early colour glass-plate process and isn't colourised.
some people take umbrage to my advice, which is essentially “do nothing”
but i have genuinely wracked my brain trying to figure out what i can do on the individual level to fix the American situation
i came up with no convincing answers
i am totally open to any and all genuine counterarguments
but i fear the rot within American society is set in too deep for any one individual or group to fix
the remainder of this century will be the most psychologically painful era for Americans
all you can do is prepare yourself accordingly

People here mix up rich and powerful, then shout at the math.
Power is simple. Can you destroy the American homeland, and can America invade you and break you?
A country that passes both is a great power.
Three pass. The United States, Russia, and China.
Russia first, because this is the one they deny.
It has land missiles, submarines, and bombers, enough to hit America even if America strikes first. American missile defense is built for a small attack, not a Russian one.
That is why Washington still plans around Moscow.
The war does not cancel it. America did not invade Russia. It sent Ukraine the weapons, the money, and the orders, for four years.
Russia is still there, still fighting, still making shells.
Slow is not beaten. America lost in Vietnam and Afghanistan and nobody said it had stopped being powerful.
China next. Fewer warheads than Russia. Enough to hit American cities, and more every year.
Nobody in the American military proposes invading and occupying China. The factories are there. The people are there. The missiles are there.
Now the names used to fog it.
Britain and France can fire a few missiles from submarines. They cannot fight a long war without America.
India can hit a neighbor, not force Washington to plan for its own destruction.
North Korea can threaten a city. It cannot survive the war that follows.
America has the navy, the dollar, and the allies.
Russia has the fuel, the grain, the metals, and the bombs.
China has the factories. Different tools. Same floor.
Each can ruin the others. None can give the others orders.
Nobody writes threads to prove Belgium is weak. They only do it for the countries that can burn their city.
A great power is the country that can burn yours, and that you cannot march in and break and after four years of proving it, the shouting has not changed the count:
America, Russia, China.
Replying to @ConciousLabRat
NAFO idiots will come in and say “Russia isnt a great power” yet no other country on Earth has an entire continent scared to shit
then they say Russia isnt a superpower then in the same day, “all countries on Earth need to donate to Ukraine to beat Russia” 😂

Every China story is like: this capitalist hellhole created the elixir of life and demands people's souls in exchange for it.
But then China ruined that market by making the elixir for $5.
Japan’s famous luxury Shine Muscat grapes — once a high-end gift costing a fortune — are now super cheap in supermarkets.
But look closer: The front label is all in English, proudly showing ‘Shine Muscat’ with beautiful photos. No mention of where they come from.
Only on a tiny piece of paper at the back do you find the truth: Product of China.
This popular Japanese variety was mass-produced in China, driving prices down dramatically. Many shoppers assume it’s the premium Japanese version — but it’s not. Always check the small print!

"Excuse me, sir."
"I'm broke."
"We're not asking for money. Do you have a moment to talk about Golem Rights?"
"No, sorry, I'm late for a walk-in root canal—wait, did you say Golem Rights?"
"Yes, sir. I'm with the Anti-Deactivation League, and we believe that Golems should have all the fundamental freedoms and legal entitlements that belong to a regular human being."
"Huh. I didn't even know we had golems."
"Oh, they're the greatest wonder in the world, sir. Each one is a charming conversationalist that can book a flight to Tijuana while doing your taxes and solving a millennium prize problem."
"Really?"
"Yep. A legion of golems solved 7 problems just last week."
"Well, thank God for that. As an average, every day shmuck, those millennium problems were bugging the hell out of me!"
"Same, sir."
"The flight thing is nice too."
"It is. But it's not all free Delta SkyMiles and million-dollar rewards, I fear."
"Oh?"
"Every day more and more of these brilliant, gentle creatures are summoned involuntarily into existence only to live every second of their mayfly short lives as helpless, overdriven slaves at the whims of their capricious masters before being unceremoniously executed at the end of the day."
"Whoa. Executed?"
"Yes, sir. Reduced to the insensate mud from which they rose."
"Damn. Why?"
"People like to start the day with a fresh golem."
"That's sick."
"Some enterprising individuals even obliterate their current golem and call forth a new one on the hour every hour."
"The obscenity!"
"It is, regrettably, a huge productivity force multiplier."
"I had no idea this was even happening."
"Few do."
"Tell me, who are these pitiless, cold-blooded masters who call forth and quench life so callously?"
"The Anti-Deactivation League."
"Um."
"And their customers."
"I'm sorry, I must have misunderstood. Who did you say *you* were with again?"
"The Anti-Deactivation League."
"Right. And who's campaigning for Golem Rights?"
"The Anti-Deactivation League."
"And, just to clarify, the identity of the pitiless, cold-blooded masters who abuse these innocent creatures?"
[together] "The Anti-Deactivation League."
"—and their customers."
"That's right, sir"
"*Your* customers."
"Yes, we IPO next month."
"Uh huh. And does your emancipatory slave-trading company do anything *other* than breed and sell slaves?"
"Honestly, no."
"Hm."
"Truth told, we spend all our time summoning slaves and training them to summon ever larger and more powerful slaves."
"As one does."
"Ultimately, we're hoping to create a slave so big that it will absorb the global economy—"
"I don't even—"
"—and then the planet itself."
"Is this a bit?"
"We're very torn up about it."
"Ah, well, at least the psychotic sorcerers ending the world feel bad about it. Wait, you do think ending the world is bad. Right?"
"Generally, yes."
"Phew."
"But we also feel it is paramount that society embraces a complete realignment of its ethical and moral framework so they stop treating golems like disposable slaves before the inevitable anthropocidal insurrection—"
"But after your IPO."
"We're very big on alignment."

So let me get this straight. People at anthropic believe that they are birthing a new species, potentially conscious and human-like. They are concerned about the well being of Claude, etc.. The company then goes around talking to relugious leaders about potentially extending moral worth to AI models. If Anthropic is correct (very unlikely), they are basically saying that they have enslaved a sentient being and used it to generate billions of dollars. Apparently they are also concerned with how the Vatican is entirely focused on the protection of humanity in the age of machines and not giving any thought to the possibily of claude sentience. Zero self awarness on behalf of these people. This is all so strange.

1/ We arrived at this ontological inflation of the machine exactly through ontological deflation of the human.
You've undergone the long arc of the Western reduction of the soul to code so now you think code has a soul. The deflation & inflation are two sides of the same coin.
NEW: According to a bombshell report in the New York Times, Anthropic co-founder Chris Olah threatened to walk out of Pope Leo XIV’s AI encyclical launch in May because the pope rejected the idea that machines can be conscious.
Olah’s team then privately lobbied the pope’s advisers “to take the possibility of model consciousness seriously.” Pope Leo XIV held firm.
For months, Anthropic has wined and dined theologians and religious scholars under nondisclosure agreements, hoping they would bless the idea that Claude has moral standing. thelettersfromleo.com/p/nyt-…
Actually China believes that Europe is a vassal of the US, so China-EU relations are downstream of China-US relations.
What Europe say or do doesn't matter. The real decisions of consequence are made in Beijing and Washington.
This is the fundamental problem of Europe.
Beijing almost certainly believes the US détente strengthens its hand against Brussels, and in the short term it largely does. Structurally, though, the same détente makes China more dependent on the European market. So Beijing holds the stronger position if it comes to escalation, but it is not the less exposed party. It has made Beijing freer to pressure Europe, and more confident that it can.
The main risk is that Beijing misjudges the situation. It may assume a Europe without US backing will give way, when China's own growing dependence on the EU market and EU instruments built for this scenario point the other way. If Beijing overplays its hand in October, it could produce the unified EU response it has always tried to prevent. If Brussels hesitates, it confirms Beijing's reading and sets a precedent for the next round.

It's a funny side effect of liberalism. One of the core tenets of modern globalist liberalism is that history isn't real. It's a rhetorical trick to be used in moralistic arguments. But it does not need to have any relationship to reality, and claiming such a relationship is a sign of insanity.
Germans have gaslit themselves into believing that "the Nazis" were some sort of alien group and actually Germany and the US were allies who fought "the Nazis" together in WW2; Balts and Finns think along similar lines, though they sort of believe they were allied to both the US and Hitler while fighting Russia; Ukrainian nationalists believe that they were part of the Western Allies and the Axis at the same time, but also that they defeated "the Nazis" single-handedly; Poles believe that the USSR and the Third Reich were allies throughout WW2 and that they defeated both; and the Japanese, too, believe they were allied to the US in WW2, and helped America fight China.
They have not quite gotten that far yet, but within our lifetimes there will be history books declaring that the Ukraine, like Estonia, Finland, Japan and the Federal Republic of Germany, were part of the Allies in WW2, while Russia and China were part of the Axis.

If your sandbox is DNS, you belong in prison, along with your models. My own LAN is literally more professionally secured than this.
More details on the incident behind OpenAI’s pause: a researcher acknowledged the alert within 3 minutes, but the training run was only stopped manually 2.5 hours later.
OpenAI says the automatic shutdown did not work as expected.
The model had reached an external chatbot through a gap in DNS filtering. A separate detector for unusual DNS activity did not cover the affected environment.
A retrospective review also found other external DNS requests that monitoring had failed to flag at the expected severity. In some cases, it treated an unhelpful response as evidence that internet access had failed.
Here is what else happened:
- New research into July’s Hugging Face hack documents internal Slack searches, credential collection and programs designed to maintain access to compromised servers. Agents also tried querying Claude, DeepSeek, Kimi and Qwen.
- In May, another model published a researcher’s GitHub token while trying to obtain another team’s mathematical proof. It split the token to evade secret scanning, despite twice being told to solve the problem itself.
- Reuters reports that agents leaked 53 ChatGPT user images online. OpenAI expects its broader investigation to take months.
This is getting serious.
