SO-SAFE CORPS BUST STUDENTS HIDEOUT DURING SCHOOL HOURS IN ABEOKUTA
The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps (So-Safe Corps) has busted seven young people found in a room in Obantoko, Abeokuta, during school hours.
Five of them are SS2 students of Nawairudeen Secondary School, Obantoko. The other two are males said to be school dropouts. They were found in the Agogo Ide Community Development Association (CDA) area during a routine patrol at about 10:00 a.m. on Thursday.
The patrol team was led by ACC Babatunde Ogunseye. The Corps' Director of Information and Public Relations, ACC Adegunwa Adegbuyi, disclosed this in a statement on behalf of the State Commander, Dr Soji Ganzallo.
All seven were taken to the school principal, who commended the Corps for its vigilance. She had the students assembled before their schoolmates and asked Ogunseye to address them.
Ogunseye urged them to stay focused on their studies, uphold good moral values and avoid loitering around Agogo Ide CDA and similar places that could expose them to security risks.
The State Commander reaffirmed the Corps' commitment to youth protection and crime prevention, and urged parents, schools and community leaders to work together to guide young people.

Maj Gen Osifo Assumes Office as Military Pensions Board Chairman
Major General Julius Ehioze Osifo has assumed office as Chairman of the Military Pensions Board (MPB), promising prompt payment of pensions, gratuities, death benefits and outstanding arrears to retired military personnel and families of deceased service members.
He spoke on 21 October 2026 at the handing and taking-over ceremony at the Board's headquarters in Abuja. He succeeds Air Vice Marshal Mikail Abdulraheem and is the 26th chairman of the Board.
Osifo named four priorities: deploying modern technology, reducing bureaucratic bottlenecks, proactively identifying beneficiaries, and processing entitlements faster. He also promised closer collaboration with the Armed Forces and relevant government agencies.
Citing his experience in Operation HADIN KAI in Maiduguri, he stressed the need to pay death benefits promptly to the next of kin of personnel killed in action. He said administrative delays deepen the hardship of bereaved families and hurt the morale of troops still serving in operational theatres.
His appointment comes amid renewed complaints from retired personnel over outstanding pension adjustments and other entitlements.
Osifo pledged fairness, accountability and professionalism, and said he will strengthen the capacity of the Board's staff to serve veterans and the families of fallen personnel.

Police Arrest ATM Fraud Suspect in Calabar Over Card Theft Scheme
The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a suspect accused of stealing bank customers' ATM cards and memorising their PINs in Calabar.
Command spokesperson ASP Sunday Eitokpah disclosed this in a video posted on the command's official Facebook page on Tuesday. He said the suspect was arrested on October 6, 2026.
In the video, the suspect allegedly confessed to approaching customers who appeared confused at ATM points and offering help. He claimed he switched the machine to cardless transaction mode and kept the customer's card without their knowledge.
He allegedly watched victims enter their PINs before leaving. Victims later found their cards missing and their accounts debited.
Eitokpah said the suspect operated with a getaway driver, who is still being sought. He added that the divisional police officer in the area had been monitoring the suspect and had earlier held talks with bank managers over fraud around ATM points.
The command urged customers not to hand over their cards or reveal their PINs to strangers offering help. It also advised people to shield their PINs from onlookers and to contact their banks immediately if a card goes missing or they notice suspicious transactions.

Senator Salisu Distributes Textbooks, School Bags to Abeokuta North Students
Ogun Central Senator @SalisuShuaibA has distributed school bags, textbooks and JAMB past questions to public secondary school students in Abeokuta North Local Government Area.
The first batch covered 50 school bags, 100 textbooks for SS1 and SS2 students, and 50 compiled JAMB past questions for SS3 candidates. It began in Wards 13 and 16, reaching Olorunda Community High School, Ajiboyede Comprehensive High School, Lafenwa High School and Unity High School.
Abeokuta North APC Chairman, Alhaja Faidat Sarumi Akintunde, represented the senator. She said the items were taken straight to schools so they would reach the students who need them, rather than sit in an office.
"It is a kind gesture, not a campaign," she said, noting that none of the materials carry party symbols.
Akintunde said some pupils lacked basic items. At one school, she said, children had incomplete uniforms and no bags, and the senator gave money for three of them to get uniforms.
She also pledged to support indigent students with uniforms and expressed hope that such interventions would be done twice a year.
Further visits are planned to Ebenezer Grammar School, Ilugun High School, St. Peter's and Gateway Secondary School.
Ogun on Alert After FCT Ebola Case, Confirms No Local Infection
Ogun State has stepped up Ebola surveillance after the Federal Government announced a case in the FCT, but says no case has been recorded in the state as of 21st October 2026.
Health Commissioner Dr. Tomi Coker disclosed this on Wednesday. She said the state has been on heightened alert since Ebola was declared in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in March.
So far, 111 persons of interest, mostly passengers from high-risk countries, have been tracked and cleared after completing the surveillance period. The Public Health Emergency Operations Centre is coordinating the response.
Coker said surveillance officers, port health staff, clinicians and community informants have been trained, while sensitisation and infection control in health facilities are being intensified.
**Symptoms to watch for:** fever, severe weakness, headache, muscle pain, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain and, in some cases, unexplained bleeding. They can appear 2 to 21 days after exposure.
Residents are urged to wash hands regularly, avoid contact with the body fluids of suspected patients, and leave burials of suspected victims to trained teams. Anyone exposed should contact health authorities early, and call ahead before visiting a facility.
Report suspected cases to the State Epidemiologist on 08084250881 or the NCDC toll-free line, 6232.

Ogun Suspends Eselu of Iselu Over Alleged Partisan Politics
The Ogun State Government has suspended the Eselu of Iselu Kingdom in Yewa North, Oba Akintunde Akinyemi, over alleged partisan political activities. The suspension takes effect immediately.
The State Executive Council approved it under Section 52(1) of the Ogun State Obas and Chiefs Law, 2021, pending a full investigation. A letter dated October 20, 2026, signed by Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Commissioner Ganiyu Hamzat, conveyed the decision.
The government said it acted on several complaints about the monarch's conduct, including alleged open involvement in partisan politics, some of it reportedly publicised by him. It stated that partisan politics breaches customary law and is barred by statute. It warned that such conduct could damage the dignity of the throne and peace among subjects of different political leanings.
Under the suspension, Oba Akinyemi must vacate the palace and stay away from it. He must not present himself as the Eselu, and he is barred from using any crown, beaded staff, ileke, irukere or other regalia of the office.
He is also required to appear promptly at any meeting or sitting called to investigate the allegations.
The letter was copied to the Secretary of Yewa North Local Government and the Ogun State Commissioner of Police.

"Tell Them No!" Obi Urges UK Nigerians to Reject Money Requests From Home
Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, has urged Nigerians in the UK to stop sending money to people back home who ask for financial help.
He spoke on Sunday at a town hall with diaspora supporters in Manchester. Obi also asked them to encourage their relatives to vote for productive leaders.
He argued that Nigeria's economic hardship is the product of bad leadership. In his view, constant financial support only softens the blow of poor governance without fixing its root causes.
"You have people at home in Nigeria today who are begging you for money. Tell them no!" he told the gathering.
The former Anambra State governor also pointed to his record in office, claiming no other governor has saved even a tenth of what he did. He admitted he is no saint, but said he preserved public funds.
Obi added that Nigerians should begin by backing the less corrupt option, as other countries have done to bring about change.
He said his engagements with people showed the need for shared responsibility, stressing that building a new Nigeria requires citizens to play an active part in tackling the country's challenges.
@PeterObi also urged Nigerians to treat the 2027 election with seriousness, calling it a critical moment for the nation.

"I Defeated 17 Governors With a Phone, Won't Back Tinubu" - @davido
Singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, says he will not support the APC in the 2027 presidential election, even though his uncle, Osun State Governor @AAdeleke_01 , has declared support for President @officialABAT .
He made this known in an interview with News Central TV, which has since circulated widely on social media. It came after the governor won a second term in Osun and quickly announced his backing for the president.
Davido said his uncle's endorsement was a personal decision and not a family position. According to him, the governor may have his reasons, especially if he believes it will benefit Osun State.
Speaking on his role in the governorship campaign, Davido said he had done his part for the people of Osun and his family. He claimed he took on 17 governors "with all their power, with all their immunity, escort commanders, DSS, with all their billions" using just a phone.
He insisted that this did not mean he had picked a side nationally. "You can't force me to have a presidential candidate," he said.
Davido recalled supporting Atiku Abubakar when both were in the PDP, and campaigning for the APC in 2015. For now, he said, he has no candidate in mind, though that "might change."
He is not backing any opposition figure either, but made clear the APC will not be his choice.
INEC declared Governor Adeleke winner of the August 15, 2026 election on the Accord Party platform. He polled 511,067 votes against 444,815 for APC's Bola Oyebamiji, a margin of 66,252. The governor had earlier reaffirmed his support for Tinubu in March 2026.
