And the Agency’s security files on Guy Banister Associates, Inc., were not fully evaluated by the HSCA, per this July 1978 memo from CIA security chief Bruce L. Solie: “Under procedures established with the HSCA, certain items of information were not reviewed by HSCA staff members. These items were placed in envelopes, appropriately identified, and put back into the security file prior to HSCA review. CIA director Richard Helms was no longer a fan of “so-called comedian, Mort Sahl,” if he ever was one, by the summer of ‘68. Sahl was using his popularity on the U.S. talk-show circuit to increase awareness of the Garrison investigation in New Orleans. He went on the Merv Griffin Show in July 1968 and repeated several of Garrison’s claims of a CIA connection to the JFK assassination. This prompted Helms to send an Agency memo, “Jim Garrison and the CIA,” to Senator (and former Warren Commission member) Richard Russell. archives.gov/files/research/…
