Tim looked away. He wouldn’t make a scene. “Wouldn’t want to keep you.” He busied himself with his tie. It was already perfectly straight. There was something particularly humiliating about wanting someone’s company when they seemed so perfectly content to do without yours.

And here I was under the impression you’d tell me I look handsome in all of them. I was asking about blazers, not seeking fashion advice from a man who thinks a wedding ring is an accessory.

Was debating which blazer to wear today… then remembered I’m a government employee in the 1950s and they’re all bloody identical.

Lord, forgive the thoughts this puts in my head… I want to be kissed like that. Right under the crucifix. Slow and desperate and wrong. I’d whisper every prayer I know against his mouth and still not stop.

I shall go to sleep now.… this is a promise I have made to myself approximately four times in the last hour. Goodnight, I really mean it this time.

Went to confession. Went to Mass. Had a milkshake. Thought about him for three hours. All in all, a very productive afternoon.
