my die on this hill opinion is that anything involving money in your application should be modeled in your database like a credit card balance. don't use SCD, or some kind of update mechanism. append only.

SQL interviews should not just test whether you can write a query, but also whether you can write an efficient query

the modern day tech worker memento mori is: your job doesn't actually provide value to society

Ok someone is definitely cutting onions
Every time the Tennessee Titans player DeAndre Hopkins' scores a touchdown, he delivers the ball to his mom Sabrina Greenlee, who is blind. It’s one of the best traditions in sports. The whole story is heartbreaking. Seventeen years. That's how long it has been since she lost her vision when a woman she didn't know threw acid at her face, blinding and disfiguring her in a bout of jealous rage. Greenlee was a single mother of four in South Carolina, caught up in abusive relationships, hustling to survive. DeAndre was 10 years old. Over time, she regained her sight in spurts, but it disappeared completely a few years ago, just as her son was emerging as one of the NFL's brightest stars. Since then, millions of people have watched the now Tennessee wide receiver dive for otherworldly catches on the national stage, racking up more receptions through the first six seasons of a career than any other player in NFL history. If her son scores, she explains, her daughter will help her stand up and lean over the barrier so she can accept the football from Hopkins. This ritual serves as a reminder that, while she can't see her son, he still sees her -- and he wants the world to see her too. “That ball symbolizes so much more than people ever could understand”

The only gripe I have about #ruff is that I have to update my project CI so damn often to keep up with the updates

Sure, in hindsight it's easy to say NFTs were stupid and NFT gamblers would lose their money. But you have to remember, at the peak of the bubble... well, it was easy to say back then too.

Today’s swift and unanimous verdict confirms what we already knew: that SBF misled and deceived so many, from customers and employees to business partners and investors, including myself and Sequoia.

we gotta stop glorifying the big tech "visionaries". mom and pop shop on the corner works more hours than Elon has spent on the toilet looking at his phone

the people who laud themselves for thinking about the "big picture" (think architect types) without actually ever doing it avoid these people at work; these are the black belts that have never been in a real fight

Just migrated Apache Airflow's ~1m lines of code from Black to Ruff's new formatter... it's about 40x faster and took less than an hour. Incredible work that @charliermarsh & the team at @astral_sh are doing!

Andrew Ng is my hero tbh. This mf taught me the basics of ML, for free, at exactly the right time in my life and I'll be forever grateful for it. And he also just so happens to be based as hell

there should be no fear of AI damaging humanity. it has been, is now, and always will be people who use it to damage humanity
