Wonderful news: Murera has given birth to a baby girl this morning! Her daughter entered the world bathed in the light of a near-full moon, perfect in every way. We’ve named her Mwezi, which means moon in Swahili.
Murera chose to give birth in her stockade, the place that has been her nighttime sanctuary all these years. Her delivery couldn’t have been more seamless – in fact, by the time the Keepers heard the rumbles and rushed to her side, it was all over! Mother and baby are doing very well, while Mwana is already proving to be an excellent and attentive big sister.
More to come, but we're filled with joy and wanted to share Mwezi’s first moments with you. (Word is already out amongst the elephants – this morning, every wild-living Umani orphan showed up to meet the newest member of their family!)
Congratulations to our extraordinary Murera: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/o…

New baby announcement!
At dawn today, ex-orphan Chaimu returned to our Ithumba stockades with a beautiful surprise – her newborn daughter. We were delighted that she chose to share this special moment with the Keepers who helped raise her.
Named Comet, she is the 95th known calf born to an orphan rescued, raised and rewilded through our Orphans’ Project.
Each new arrival is a wonderful reminder of what your support makes possible: not just saving individual lives, but giving rise to new generations of wild elephants.

I’ve gathered the funniest expressions of this Golden Retriever, who has rightly gone viral for the incredibly amusing facial expressions he pulls when meeting other animals.

This video is AI-generated, not authentic footage. Unnatural motion artifacts—such as the dog's pupils distorting, the cow's nose physically merging with the dog's head, and unnatural fur blending—are visible.

The Belgian Malinois is the most intelligent dog breed in the world. This is super impressive to me.
