It's amazing/ridiculous that I can find full Statesman editions from the 1800's & photo negatives from the 1940's, yet I can't find videos or photos I produced when I worked at the Statesman 2011-2017 on statesman.com now. A lot of links lead to broken pages. #txstmojo
Constant website content management system changes in a tumultuous journalism industry result in stories becoming 404 errors &disappearing media.
It seems to be a problem across newsrooms & I'm convinced we have huge chunks of history missing: texasstatemultimedia.com/unc…

The building @ 305 South Congress Ave was home to the Statesman from 1980-2021. The site now seems to be mainly used as paid public parking (& is popular w/ bat bridge visitors). The property will be redeveloped as a mixed-use space in the future 305southcongress.com

Ke Huy Quan was born in Vietnam, fled to Hong Kong, and then came to the United States as an eight-year-old refugee.
The White House last month released a new rule that would ban refugees that stopped in another country before arriving at the US border.
"My journey started on a boat. I ended up in a refugee camp ... They say stories like this only happen in the movies. I cannot believe this is happening to me. This is the American dream!" - Ke Huy Quan #Oscars

Whoever claimed that the "internet is forever" didn't have to go back to the internet of 2009 for a research project only to find that 75% of the links go nowhere now.

I recently came across data on who we spend our time with over the course of our lives.
The insights are simultaneously inspiring and depressing.

I don’t have time to read books or watch movies I only have time to watch 13 hrs of disjointed, chaotic content that leaves me feeling deeply anxious and alone

The worry about $8 verification for everybody isn’t that somebody is going to impersonate Joe Biden. It’s that they’re going to impersonate a no-name in a position of power — an election official, a CDC worker, a local news reporter — and cause chaos. Much less solvable problem.
