While Xavier Becerra is a NO on Prop 40, the CA billionaire tax, he confirmed he's putting together his own wealth tax push if elected.
Becerra said he's looking at income, not assets.
"You want to make sure it's something that's fair, it's predictable, and it's stable."

🚨 BREAKING: Becerra comes out in favor of new "mileage tax."
Every California driver would be TRACKED and charged by the mile, costing an extra $1,000 a year!
California, this situation is dire. You can't afford more GOUGING! Elect me governor, and I'll VETO the mileage tax.

A mileage tax in California?
Xavier Becerra says he would consider it, "everything should be on the table" to maintain roads and bridges.
"Do I want to tax people more than necessary? No.. Should people who drive EVs who don't need gas pay for those roads? Absolutely."

It's almost as if there are students who want real classes and to actually learn things
“It’s the only class I took at Harvard where people would call each other out for not having done the reading.”
Harvard students are lining up to take Hum 10:
“Applications (essays required) shot up 40% this fall with 180 incoming freshmen vying for 90 spots.”
“The class is definitely not for padding the GPA. Students read a hefty book a week and write regular essays. There is no pass/fail option. Digital devices are verboten, and attendance is taken in every lecture (pink slips for those who arrive late).”
“In their applications and in interviews, students expressed the urge to be forced to tackle classics they otherwise wouldn’t read, the need to combat frayed attention spans and the desire for an antidote to The Machine. Several mentioned with disdain that people who aren’t in the class wondered why they didn’t ‘just Chat the books,’ i.e., use AI.”

I’m a frequent critic of the NYT.
They brag they have 10 million subscribers. A former executive editor they said don’t vote for Donald Trump.
Today, the NYT committed old-fashioned journalism and they should be credited for it.
I wish they took on the Ds more often, as they always take on the Rs.
To state the obvious: If the @nytimes *only* wrote stories to help Democrats, they wouldn’t have written this one. My guess is they just guaranteed @DanSullivan_AK re-election. And they devoted a lot of investigative resources to do it.

While some may try to write this off as just how politics works now, ballot-stacking should have no place in our electoral process. Run and win on your merits: your views, your policy ideas, and your accomplishments. By contrast, recruiting candidates to manipulate the field and influence voting outcomes is simply wrong. Alaskans deserve the honest truth from Mary and her campaign—what has been revealed is a pattern of lies and coverups and a culture of deception that belongs nowhere in our elections or among our elected officials.

In her recent federal filing, Mary Peltola's counsel insisted, "DOJ's complaint is wholly baseless." Now the NY Times is reporting that her campaign was actively involved in seeking to confuse Alaskan voters by running decoy "Dan Sullivans." A staffer now says that Peltola knew about the effort to force voter confusion.
The jig is up. Good for the NY Times for exposing it. The Dems are lying their butts off about it:

BREAKING: NYT reports that operatives with Democratic Alaska U.S. Senate candidate Mary Peltola’s campaign were behind the effort to find & recruit a candidate named Dan Sullivan to run against incumbent GOP Senator Dan S. Sullivan in an effort to confuse voters and peel votes from him.
Specifically, NYT says they have reviewed text messages and documents that reveal in summer 2025, a Peltola staffer received instructions from campaign staffers to find as many people named Dan Sullivan in Alaska as possible.
The staffer complied, going through voter records, and compiled a list. The operation “involved secret trips to far-flung Alaskan communities and the appearance of a mysterious Midwestern operative, who traversed the state using a fake name and made his pitch to would-be candidates over beers at brew pubs.”
Per NYT:
“The plan worked. This spring, a retired teacher from a tiny fishing village along the Alaska Panhandle, reachable only by air and sea, announced his candidacy for Senate. His name was Dan J. Sullivan.”

It runs from Rome's mythical founding to the Third Century Crisis. It ends on a question the class spent a whole session arguing about: did Rome ever really fall?
