Big one just happened yesterday - it's now the largest crypto hack ever. What happened: - Oct 29, 2026, Binance hot wallets were drained. Estimated impact ∼$6.3 billion stolen, surpassing the $1.5B Bybit hack in 2025. - Binance says initial investigation points to a compromised DevOps engineer's laptop, which let attacker access a service container and submit unauthorized withdrawals. No wallet private key leak found so far. - Attacker used EIP-7702 trick to turn Binance wallets into sweepers, moved ∼204,500 ETH plus USDT, USDC, BTC. Arkham says hacker wallets at one point held >$5.7B including $1.5B BTC and $900M ETH. - Blockchain firms TRM Labs and ZachXBT attribute it to North Korea - unit "TraderTraitor". Where's the money now: - About $3 billion frozen so far. Tether froze $1.567B USDT, Circle froze ∼$800M USDC, Ripple ∼$200M, World Liberty $27M, Arbitrum froze 74.56M ARB tokens. - ∼$700M USDT moved before freeze and is still moving via Uniswap, Aave etc. Impact for users: - Binance co-CEO Yi He says "user funds are safe" and Binance will cover all losses from company funds + $1B SAFU fund. - Withdrawals and deposits are temporarily suspended while they do security checks. - Market dropped hard: BTC down to ∼$77k, 3-5% drop, over $1B liquidations.
