@rustlang advocate. Best programmer that this Berghain regular has ever met. Show me an SF entrepreneur's opinion and I will tell you why it's completely stupid

Logging off from Twitter. If you have any sympathy for Elmo or Trump, please go outside, take a breathe of fresh air, and reflect a bit about why you're doing this to yourself, then go buy some books (no Internet articles) about modern History. Actually do it, don't just pretend.

If it takes more than 3 clicks to find the source code or the data format, you probably shouldn't be using that tech

When you have a CPU intensive operation in your Wasm, it tends to freeze the web page. You might be tempted to periodically yield back control to the rendering using `setTimeout(..., 0)`. But that when the page is in the background, `setTimeout` gets a minimum delay of 1 second.

JavaScript's insane complexity strikes again. To solve that problem, I'm now adding a `periodically_yield: bool` setting that is updated whenever the page goes in the foreground or background.

In case you're wondering why I don't use wasm-bindgen: it's also so that I can fix stuff like that in two hours instead of having a six months design discussion with the library authors.

The cryptocurrencies space in a nutshell: They could reinvent the concept of money from scratch and shape it the way they want. Instead, they're like "we're doing money 100% exactly like it is, but on the Internet" and VCs lose their mind over this and call them insanely smart.
Holy shit this is the greatest thing I’ve ever seen

If your idea is too different from what exists, rich stupid people won't understand it and just dismiss it. In order to be called a genius by rich stupid people, you have to be right at the sweet spot of "a bit of innovation, but not too much".

Time for a reminder that there's about 50 years of research showing a clear correlation between a background in engineering and support for authoritarianism.
To independent-minded voters: Shared power curbs the worst excesses of both parties, therefore I recommend voting for a Republican Congress, given that the Presidency is Democratic.

As someone who's been writing networking code in Rust for the past 5 years, my main advice is: avoid asynchronous Rust as much as you can. It's a bit like the JS callbacks pattern: when you write small programs it looks cool, but in reality it makes the code 10x more complicated.

Note that this is true for networking only. Other domains (e.g. send messages between actors) typically don't reach the stage where it becomes too complicated.

I thought that let-else could replace for example the usage of `Option::unwrap_or`. Unfortunately no. Let-else can only be a statement and not an expression, and the `else` block must apparently always produce `()` or diverge. Way less useful than I had initially thought 😕

Everybody is excited for GATs, while I'm just excited about let-else.
