So true.
If creating new money doesn't cause inflation, why is counterfeiting illegal? If new money doesn't affect the economy, why can't anyone just print as much as they want? Banks conjure money from nothing, and you pay the interest on that conjuring. This is fractional reserve banking: your deposit of $1,000 becomes the legal basis for the bank to lend out $9,000 it doesn't possess, collecting interest on the full sum while you earn 0.4% on your savings account. This mechanism is elegant fraud, if you're generous. The bank holds reserves, say 10%, and lends the remainder. That lent money gets deposited elsewhere, becoming reserves for another round of lending. One dollar of base money fans outward into a pyramid of credit. Murray Rothbard calculated that a 10% reserve ratio allows a single $1,000 deposit to support $10,000 in total deposits across the system. This expansion creates purchasing power that competes with your existing dollars. Your savings are diluted as surely as a counterfeiter working in your neighborhood. Prices rise. You feel poorer because you are poorer. The Federal Reserve, established in 1913, backstops the entire structure. Banks lend recklessly because the Fed stands ready to bail out the system with freshly printed reserves. Privatized profits, socialized losses. The 2008 crisis saw the Fed expand its balance sheet from $900 billion to over $2 trillion within months, and you bore the inflationary consequences.

In 2018, Elon Musk tweeted that he would fund the replacement of lead contaminated water pipes in Flint, Michigan for any home that still had unsafe water. He said to just tell him which houses needed help and he would fix them. The response from Flint's officials was near silence. The offer was genuine. Elon followed up. He donated $480,000 to install UV filtration systems in Flint schools. He offered to continue funding until every household had clean water. Local officials thanked him publicly and then largely stopped responding. The project stalled not because of money but because of bureaucracy, local politics, and the same institutional inertia that had allowed the crisis to happen in the first place. The detail that makes this story devastating is not the donation. It is the disconnect between the speed at which Elon operates and the speed at which a municipal government can accept help. He offered. He funded. He followed up. The system he was trying to help could not process the help at the speed it was offered. The man who can build a factory in 6 months could not get a city to accept pipe replacements because the approval process, the contractor bids, the environmental reviews, and the political negotiations moved at a pace that made SpaceX look like light speed by comparison. He has described the Flint experience as one of the most frustrating of his career. Not because the problem was hard. Because the problem was easy and the system designed to solve easy problems was broken. The water needed clean pipes. The pipes needed money. The money was offered. And the space between offered and installed was filled with a bureaucracy that moved at the speed of government while children drank contaminated water. The man who solves engineering problems for a living encountered a problem that was not engineering. It was institutional. The pipes were simple. The politics were not. The money was present. The will was present. The system that was supposed to connect money and will to pipes could not function at the speed the crisis demanded. He fixed the schools. The broader offer faded. The city eventually replaced most of its pipes through federal and state funding years later. The man who offered to fix it in months watched it take years. The frustration of the man who moves fast encountering a world that doesn't is the frustration that defines his relationship with every institution he touches. The rockets are faster because they don't require a city council vote.

Would someone tell me what's going on? It's my understanding we were supposed to go back to standard time at 2 AM this morning. But all my clocks. phones, and computer are still showing DST. There may be mass confusion at churches today.

In the 1960s sometimes a male singer would release a song about a man and woman from the man's perspective and then a female singer would release a song about the same couple from the woman's perspective. In that spirit I offer you this pair of songs about young love in the Appalachian Mountains. (AI) youtube.com/watch?v=WQfBUnNR…

The answer isn’t getting the right person into power. The answer is limiting power so that the person doesn’t matter.

When I was a child people didn't say a woman was pregnant, they would say she was PG, or "in the motherly way."

What happened to the American spirit of rebellion? They use our tax dollars to fund wars, regime change and resource extraction all around the globe. Our political class is either protecting pedophiles, ignoring them, or pretending Epstein never existed. We have the largest prison population on Earth and building the biggest surveillance state in the world. Corporations saturate our food with pesticides and forever chemicals, while laws protect them from us. We’re told to stay calm. To pick a side. To vote for the next “lesser evil” and pretend that counts as freedom. At what point does being a 'good citizen' become nothing more than being a well-behaved subject? We are NOT angry enough.

Another busy day in studio. Sweet dreams, all, especially all you single ladies. Back at it tomorrow.

Here's a thought: if you believe things are going to get worse before Jesus returns why would you vote for the lesser of two evils? #delay

I've been trying all morning to find an app that will show this image 90 degrees right so we can see her full face while she is playing so I can make a music video of her singing while she plays. I haven't found one yet. Any suggestions? #AI

Pet peeve: I wish people would learn how to flip their pictures before posting. Or is that some secret message this old man doesn't know about?
