So far we have seen Russia’s war in Ukraine has force more than 10 million people to leave their homes and become displaced over the past 7 months. That number is only growing. Moldova, which shares a long border with Ukraine, is seeing a massive influx of refugees, with 100,000 people seeking sanctuary there (source: UNHCR). At RefAid, we are committed to supporting refugees, migrants and asylum seekers from all over the world, and have been supporting those fleeing from Ukraine by adding services from neighbouring countries onto our app. We are now on the hunt to add more organisations from Moldova - making services for those fleeing war and persecution more accessible. Watch this space for future updates!

For the third day of #refugeeweek we are celebrating Efrem Gidey 🏅 Originally from Eritrea, Efrem was forced to flee with his family, taking the dangerous journey to find safety in Europe. In 2017 he spent six months in Calais before being granted refugee status in Ireland
In 2019 he made news as he won a bronze medal for Irish athletics. “I’m so happy, I don’t believe it,” said Gidey after his race, admitting his target had been a top-10 finish. “It’s just amazing. I’m so happy because every time I’m looking for the Irish team, what places we finish. My [target] was for Ireland, my country, to win.” A journey of hope and resilience, what an incredible achievement.
