Culture Hero trap: Messiah traps There's an insidious category of traps an aspiring Culture Hero must watch out for. It can ruin your life: You're an advanced Pseudo-Autist, and you've decided to use your gifts to help the poor helpless normies. Maybe you're doing it for pay. You've started to get results, so that things are getting better for your target in his life. He's starting to see you as the solution to his problems. All his problems. But you're not. No one is. The idea that you could be a solution to some of his problems and not others is hard for a struggling normie to grasp. As soon as you fail to solve the next problem for him, he will turn on you with normie viciousness. I call this the Messiah Trap...

The problem with soteriology is it presumes there is only one type of lostness, and therefore one approach to salvation applies to all. Even Jesus didn't deal with everyone in the same way. He called many, and chose few. He would heal the sick and then usually move on, but occasionally call the healed to follow him. Or he would seek out specific healthy men to be his disciples. He told the one rich to give away all he had, but he did not tell all the rich to do this. Organized religion is designed for normies. It may well be what their souls need. It has no relevance for either fringe.

Job prayed for his frenemies. To God, at God's explicit command. Is this what's meant by forgiveness, turning the other cheek and all that? If so, It's not much to ask, but then Job had nothing more to give. After this, Job was blessed again. He never got an explanation. He was beyond the need for one.

In Horrible Bosses, Nick is the non-idiot whose two friends are idiots. He's the only one who doesn't screw up, but he doesn't save the day either. A deus ex machina rescues them all. His only sin is he chooses his friends poorly.

The Russian zeitgeist may not be capable of democracy. Russians lack the programming that makes it possible: desire for individual autonomy and acceptance of individual responsibility. Russia has only two possible ideologies: Bolshevism and Holy Rus (Third Rome.) Of the two, Holy Rus is less dangerous to the Western world. Bolshevism wishes to rule the entire world. Holy Rus will settle for ruling the Eastern Slavs and maybe destroying the Turks. Are we willing to throw these nations under the bus to buy a sustainable peace for ourselves? If not, are we willing to pay the price?

"Now imagine you meet millions of carpenters using this toolbox who tell you “well hey what’s the problem with these tools? They’re all I’ve ever used and they work fine!” And the carpenters show you the houses they’ve built, where every room is a pentagon and the roof is upside-down. And you knock on the front door and it just collapses inwards and they all yell at you for breaking their door. That’s what’s wrong with PHP."

The neurotic coward in power is a tyrant. His evil is a way of managing his fear of everyone. Keep us powerless so he can sleep at night. The price he pays is that no one can serve him effectively, not would anyone want to. Of course this is stupid. It won't work long term. But short term, he sleeps better at night. And stupid people don't think long term. How to make unnecessary enemies.

For an upper fringer, metrics are a temporary - er - measure. A necessary oversimplification of empirical data, until we can come up with something more detailed. For a normie, metrics are what's real. Normie rationality is heuristics. The lower functioning the normie, the simpler the metrics. For a lower fringer, metrics are what you fake to manipulate the normies.

Sadness doesn't work. It seems a reasonable response to sad things, but it's a dead end. Dark wisdom or moral indignation are better alternatives. Dark wisdom is the red pill. Sadness is the black pill. Anger is risky. You must master your anger properly, or it will sabotage you. But sadness is worse. Sadness will take you out of the race entirely.

Upper fringers like to dig deep into a problem, to see what's behind it. Having done so, they reach a core where everything is connected, and gain insight into the big picture. This is how science works. The trap is you lose track of the situation around you. The world is not passive, waiting patiently for you to dissect it. There are black swans out there, on patrol, looking for you. A Pseudo-Autist must take special pains to be aware of what's going on from all directions. The deep dive can pay off in a big way, but only if you can survive long enough. Don't be blindsided. Poll everything that matters and might change.

The orphan must overcome first, his own neediness. All his instincts to depend on a loving caregiver are counterproductive. No one is coming to nurture him. Once this is done, he can begin to overcome his circumstances. Then the orphan is free... unless he makes friends. The true loner orphan owes no one anything. No one can be held as a hostage against his obedience. He is responsible for himself, and only for himself. All his relationships will be peer relationships, governed by Peer Morality. Hierarchy means nothing to him.

Gratitude's motivation is manipulative. You want more of the kindness shown to you, so you show appreciation. This doesn't rule out feeling sincere. This is what lies behind the feeling - the unconscious evo-psych motivation. It's the need for control of relationships, for reproducibility. This is why you must track down who or what is it that caused the benefit. The darker side of this is it implies dependency. The control can never be complete. It's at best an ongoing negotiation with the benefactor. There is no sustainable unconditional love.

The enemy within - and without: The biggest mistake of many Christians is to totally internalize Satan, ignoring the ways he attacks through others. Yes, we must put our own house in order before trying to fix the world. But before we can put our house in order, we need to defeat the arsonists outside. This is the point Jordan Peterson misses. Every individual needs a foreign policy - to deal with other individuals. Peterson speaks of hegemony and do-gooderism, but neglects defense. We must defeat existential threats. That comes first. Getting our own house in order comes second. Trying to fix the world comes third - if at all. Original sin is the sins of others forcing us into sin.

The only correct way to interpret anything is in context. The only correct way to interpret New Testament passages on forgiving enemies is to remember: they were addressed to Jews and Christians who were greatly outnumbered in the midst of a pagan empire. My theory: It was an appeasement strategy. Appeasement is good if it's used from a weak position to buy time, but bad for any other purpose. Jesus' point was to talk the Zealots and the Sicarii down off of the ledge. Paul's point was to avoid making more enemies than necessary. We are living with the consequences of trying to apply this principle in the wrong place and time. This is the essence of Cuckianity. #StupidityRuinsEverything Here is a principle that always applies in some form: be ye wise as serpents and innocent as doves. Know when to sell your cloak and buy a sword. Know when to sheath it, when to brandish it, and when to use it.

The Borg are scary because they tap into the normie's fear of the upper fringe. At some level, the normies know that upper fringers are superior. Because normies see everyone unlike themselves as a potential threat, this translates into hatred and fear of the upper fringe, operating at a sub-rational - and probably subconscious - level. The Borg represent a highly plausible scenario for the next phase of evolution of conscious life, replacing mankind as we know it. Kurzweil describes this. The normies do not want to be replaced. Well, neither did homo erectus - probably. The Borg promise to upload everything that is best about every civilization it conquers. This is cold comfort to mediocre individuals. (For purposes of argument, I'm ignoring the collectivist aspect of the Borg. Of course, they're space commies. But that's just the writers taking the easy way out.)

Why can't the Borg leave well enough alone? Because no one leaves well enough alone. Normie tribes don't leave each other alone, which is why we have wars. Normies don't leave the upper fringe alone, which is the main reason why we have Damaged. At a high enough level, the world is a Dark Forest. Every tribe must conquer or be conquered. The Borg do what they must to survive.
