While it's a common knowledge that antlers are different from horns. The twist is antlers are actually some kind of bone cancer that ended up controlled to grow as head decorations.

This is how deer, elk and other cervids naturally shed their antlers each year to make way for new ones.

Wow this blows and got community noted lol Antlers aren't cancers now, but their cancer-like rapid growth is still a big question. Did deer ancestors had cancer or near cancer experience on their head back then? For now, we know deers are much more cancer resistant from this.

This map is speculative, not an accepted prediction. Scientists have proposed several different supercontinent scenarios for Earth’s distant future (Amasia, Aurica, Novopangaea, Pangaea Proxima), and there is no consensus on Earth’s shape in 100 million years. The awesome skull of the gigantic caiman, Purussaurus. A contender for the largest croc ever, with good estimates between 8–11 metres, this big beauty lived in the Amazon region about 7 million years ago. 🐊 This skull is on display at the Raymond Alf Paleo Museum. #FossilFriday

Other fossils people considered as dragons back then: - bears - lions - wolves - big apes - deers - bulls - elephants People back then just found random pile of bones in caves and thought it came from dragons just because they've never seen such big pile of bones before.
