The US ranks 18th in the world at farming the ocean. We used to be top five.
Sit with that for a second.
A country with 95,000+ miles of shoreline, one of the world's largest exclusive economic zones, and every research advantage, now imports nearly 90% of it's seafood.
That's the real gap. Domestic aquaculture doesn't scale on more boats or more labor. It scales on instrumentation, vision, data, and automation on every tank and pen.

🐟 @tryoctapulse uses AI vision to automate hatchery QA, reducing inspection time from about 5 minutes to under 30 seconds per fish while achieving over 90% accuracy, allowing farms to advance only high-quality fish and reduce wasted feed, labor, and downstream losses. This automates broodstock phenotyping and juvenile deformity inspection, two critical QA steps that are still done manually on most fish farms.
They've already have signed pilots and their models are learning each day and improving performance. Starting in the hatchery they are building towards an entire platform that can plug into existing workflows using off the shelf cameras and continuously improves.
I had the fortune of talking with Paul Grech a few weeks ago and he schooled me on the world of aquaculture tech. Congrats to Paul and Rohan Singh, @pioneer_fund can't wait to see what you accomplish!

YC W26 has one of the strongest bio and health lineups in recent memory. Love getting a glimpse of what the future of health could look like. 🔬
