For people living with chronic illness, some of the scariest experiences have nothing to do with ghosts, monsters, or haunted houses. They're the everyday realities of living with a condition that others can't always see or understand. 🎃 Here are 10... 1. Having to prove your pain is real. Imagine experiencing pain every day, only to feel like you have to convince someone that you're not exaggerating. For many people with chronic pain and invisible illnesses, the emotional exhaustion of constantly explaining themselves can become another burden to carry. And then comes the familiar phrase: "But you don't look sick." As if looking healthy means feeling healthy. 2. Missing out on life because your body needs rest. Canceling plans isn't always a choice someone makes lightly. Sometimes, it's the only manageable option. And the hardest part isn't necessarily missing the party, the dinner, or the celebration. It's seeing everyone together afterward, wishing you could have been there, and wondering whether people will eventually stop inviting you. 3. Being dismissed when you're asking for help. Imagine finally finding the courage to explain your symptoms to a doctor, only to hear that it's "just stress." Stress can affect health, but that doesn't mean unexplained symptoms should automatically be dismissed. And when a friend says, "At least it's not cancer," even well-intentioned words can leave someone feeling that their experience doesn't matter. Compassion isn't a competition between diagnoses. 4. Being exhausted before the day even begins. Chronic pain, inflammation, and other symptoms can interfere with sleep. Some people struggle to fall asleep, others wake repeatedly, and many still feel exhausted after a full night in bed. Fatigue isn't always something another cup of coffee or an early bedtime can fix. 5. Facing difficult treatment decisions. For some people, managing a chronic condition involves weighing the potential benefits of treatment against possible side effects. These decisions can be complicated, especially when symptoms are already affecting everyday life. People deserve clear information, shared decision-making, and healthcare professionals who take their concerns seriously. 6. Grieving the life you imagined. Chronic illness can change routines, relationships, careers, and expectations for the future. Sometimes, people miss the version of themselves who could make spontaneous plans, stay out late, or get through the day without thinking about symptoms. Adjusting to a different reality doesn't mean giving up. But it can involve grief, and that grief deserves space. 7. Never knowing what tomorrow will bring. Will tomorrow be a good day? Will symptoms flare? Will you have enough energy to work, socialize, or finish what you started? That uncertainty can make even ordinary commitments difficult. It's not necessarily a lack of motivation or reliability. Sometimes, living with chronic illness means planning around a body that doesn't always follow the plan. 8. Feeling pressure to be positive all the time. There's a difference between finding hope and feeling obligated to hide your struggles. People living with chronic conditions shouldn't have to smile through pain to make everyone else comfortable. You can be grateful for the good things in your life and still have difficult days. Both can be true. 9. Fighting battles nobody else can see. Not every disability is visible. Not every symptom can be measured by someone's appearance. A person might be managing pain, fatigue, brain fog, medication schedules, medical appointments, and the emotional demands of a chronic condition while appearing perfectly fine to the outside world. Being invisible shouldn't mean being overlooked. 10. Feeling alone in an experience millions of people share. Chronic illness can be isolating, particularly when others struggle to understand its unpredictable nature. But support doesn't always require having the perfect words. Sometimes, it looks like believing someone the first time, checking in without expecting a response, offering flexibility, or continuing to include them even when they can't participate. 🧡 #ChronicIllnessAwareness #InvisibleIllness #Halloween

October 29 is World Psoriasis Day. Did you know that: Up to 30 percent of people with psoriasis also develop psoriatic arthritis. PsA may strike at any age, but most commonly begins between the ages of 30 and 50. About 20 percent of patients with PsA will develop spinal involvement, which is called psoriatic spondylitis. spondylitis.org/about-spondy… #Psoriasis #psoriaticarthritis #psoriasissymptoms #psoriasisdiagnosis #psoriasistreatment #psoriasismedication #psoriasisawareness #PsA
